  3. This year in Science… • One of the things we will do is learn different strategies of note taking, to include: • Graphic organizers • Outlines • Concept mapping

  4. We will often have labs which will be conducted in groups. • Labs are a good way to work in a cross-curricular fashion with writing, graphing, measuring and performing calculations.

  5. Helpful home resources • The Textbook is available on CD-Rom. • Please send a note to school requesting a copy • Many study aids and other helpful tools can be found online at glencoe.com as well • Section review quizzes • Standardized test practice • eflashcards for vocabulary • Supplemental reading • Extra credit webquests/projects (with approval)

  7. Recommendations for next year • Part my responsibility at the end of the school year is the course recommendations for the upcoming year. • There are opportunities for advancement • This will be discussed in more detail in the Spring • The criteria for these recommendations are as follows:

  8. Honors Biology (#4609) • Students must meet or exceed 3 of the following 4 criteria • “A” in Earth/Space Science • Iowa test score in math 80th percentile • 85% in Advanced Algebra 1 or 95% in Academic Algebra 1 • Recommendation of 8th grade teacher *

  9. Academic Physical Science (4509) • Students must meet or exceed 3 of the following 4 criteria • “A” in Earth/Space Science • Iowa test score in math 65th percentile • 80% in Advanced Algebra 1 or 90% in Academic Algebra 1 • Recommendation of 8th grade teacher *

  10. All other students will be enrolled in Physical Science (#4409) unless other arrangements are made - waiver
