  2. What is AP • The Advanced Placement program is an enrichment opportunity for those students intending on going onto College or University following High School. The AP programs allow certified schools to offer college/University level courses at high schools across the United States and Canada.

  3. AP program • For over 50 years, the College Board Advanced Placement Program (AP) has partnered with colleges, universities, and high schools to provide students with the opportunity to take college-level course work and exams while still in high school.

  4. Offering more than 30 different subjects, each culminating in a rigorous exam, AP provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to earn college/university credit or placement and helps them stand out in the college admissions process.

  5. Taught by dedicated, passionate AP teachers who bring cutting-edge content knowledge and expert teaching skills to the classroom, AP courses help students develop the study skills, habits of mind, and critical thinking skills that they will need in college/university.

  6. AP is accepted by more than 3,600 colleges and universities worldwide for college credit, advanced placement, or both on the basis of successful AP Exam grades.

  9. AP classes • Student who enroll in AP classes will take the university/college prep class ie. English 10.1, Math 10 Pure, in addition to the Advanced placement course. • AP course will require additional time and will be supported through the period “0” time slot.

  10. Advanced Placement • By participating in an AP course, the student is able to enter a world of intense discussion and thought. AP courses give the students intellectual responsibility to think for themselves and to learn to reason analyze and understand

  11. Advanced Placement • AP allows students to undertake college level academic learning and advance into second year college or university course.

  12. Advanced Placement • Upon successful completion of an AP course, students are eligible to receive university credit and or advanced placement at over 4000 colleges and universities worldwide.

  13. Advanced Placement • Research shows that AP students are more likely to graduate from university with a double major and are twice as likely to pursue a PHD or studies in medicine or law

  14. Why Advanced Placement • AP students are eligible to apply for multiple entrance awards. A students could be eligible to receive up to $15000 in scholarships. • AP students are eligible to receive early admission into College or University • Students will be considered based on there best of their AP vs the Diploma course results • Transfer Credit- Students who score a 4 or 5 on an AP exam will be given University credit for those courses.

  15. Program Flexibility • Students may choose to take one AP course or full AP course load. • Academic Timetables ca n be tailored to individual abilities, interests and extra curricular time commitments.

  16. Cost • Generally the cost is $109 /exam. • All cost covered by school

  17. How does an AP class compare to other high school courses? • AP classes are more challenging and stimulating, but they take more time and require more work. AP classes require energetic, involved, and motivated students.

  18. Who should take AP • Students who want to be challenge. • Students who excel in a certain discipline (75%) • Students who have a passion for a subject • Students who want a head start when they go to College/University
