  2. What are sedative hypnotics? Sedative Hypnotics can be referred to as tranquilizers or a more common term would be sleeping pills. They are used to depress or slow down the body’s functions.

  4. Why are sedative hypnotics used? Sedative Hypnotics can be given to a patient after having a surgical procedure for the pain. Also given to people who suffer with anxiety that causes nervousness. Another common reason would be a sleeping disorder.

  5. Side effects of sedative hypnotics Calmness Relaxed muscles Slurred speech Memory loss Irritability Changes in alertness Poor judgment

  6. Can addiction occur? Yes they can become very addictive both physically and psychologically. Taking these types of drugs for a long period of time can lead to a tolerance, this may cause you to take a higher dose and more often then prescribed.

  7. Withdrawal symptoms There are many withdrawals the human body and mind can go through. It all depends on how long and much you have been taking, the size of your body and your stability in the everyday life.
