  3. EQ: How did I do on the Mock Writing Assessment? What can I do to improve? • Standard: • ELACC8RI1: Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. • ELACC8SL6: Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and tasks, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate. • ELACC8L1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking. • ELACC8L6: Acquire and use accurately grade-appropriate general academic and domain-specific words and phrases; gather vocabulary knowledge when considering a word or phrase important to comprehension or expression. • ELACC8W4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. (Grade-specific expectations for writing types are defined in standards 1-3 above.) • ELACC8W5: With some guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on how well purpose and audience have been addressed.

  4. ACTIVATOR • Balloon Pass!! • Get into groups based on the number card you received at the door. • Pass the balloon to your right around the circle until the music stops. • Was that easy? Was it hard? Why or why not? • Now get into 1 or 2 larger circles. • Let’s try that again! Pass the balloon to your right until the music stops. • What do you think now?

WORK PERIOD • Today you will take a look at how you did on the first Mock Writing Assessment (Folio Writing). • Pay attention very closely: • Make sure you have your login information. • Go to www.FolioWriting.com. • Enter your username and password. • Click on “My Tests” on the left-hand side. • Select “2012-2013 Academic Year” under “SCHOOL YEAR” • Select your class (there should only be one option) and click “Continue” • Click on “View Score Results” for the first test “FOLIO Common Core Middle Argumentative: Presidential Advice”

Inside Folio Writing • Use your Folio Writing results to fill in the graphic organizer. • Be sure to use complete sentences on the reflection portions. • When you finish, flip your graphic organizer to the back and circle the scores you got for each domain (Ideas, Style, Conventions, and Organization). • If you still have time left after completing these tasks, pull out your book and read silently until we move into the Closing.

  7. CLOSING • Put your Thanksgiving Project Reviews into one pile at your table. • Meanwhile, we will read from The Project by Brian Falkner.

  8. HOMEWORK • Complete any make up work. • Read for 30 minutes.
