  2. Who was Theodor Seuss Geisel? • Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2nd, 1904. • Dr. Seuss had a sister named Margaretha. She nicknamed herself “Marnie Mecca Ding Dong Guy.” • Dr. Seuss had a father also named Theodor, who made silly inventions. Here was one of them: Silk-Stocking-Back-Seam-Wrong-Detecting-Mirror.

  3. Growing Up • When Dr. Seuss went to school, a lot of people threw rocks at him when he was walking home. He was German and they didn’t like that. • Young Ted didn’t pay much attention to his schoolwork. He usually did doodling or writing jokes for his school newspaper. The one class that interested him the most was English.

  4. Seuss in COLLEGE!!!!! • There was a ceremony for awards at his college school one year and Dr. Seuss was called “least likely to succeed.” • Theodor found a girl at Oxford College in England. Hername was Helen Palmer and she was an American. She was studying to be a teacher.

  5. Dr. Seuss’s Books • Did you know that The Cat In The Hat wasn’t his first book? His first book was And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street. After he completed writing his book, his wife would always check it because he always thought that it was a failure. • He would usually rip out 500 or even 1,000 pages because they were not right.

  6. Dr. Seuss is taking it seriously • When World War II broke out, Dr. Seuss said “I promise that I will not write any children’s books until this war end’s.” Everybody was so sad that Dr. Seuss didn’t write books for 7 years. • After the war, his sister Marniedied. Then Helen died and told him not marry anyone else, but he broke that promise. Dr. Seuss later married Audrey Dimond.

  7. Dr. Seuss gets sick • When Dr. Seuss wrote Oh, The Places You’ll Go!, he told everybody of where he wentand all the other interesting stuff Dr. Seuss did. Dr. Seuss was 86 when he published that book. For most of his life (except for when he was a baby), he was a heavy smoker. When he went to the dentist office, Theodor Seussfound out that he had mouth cancer. Two years later, sadly Dr. Seuss died on September 24th , 1991.

  8. A rhyme from Theodor Seuss Geisel
