  3. Review - Saturation What did we make the other day? Is the undissolved salt that settled to the bottom part of the saturated salt solution? What did you do to find out how many grams of salt it took to saturate 50 ml of water?

  5. Challenge How can you find out if citric acid dissolves in water to make a solution? If it does dissolve, how can you find out how much citric acid is needed to saturate 50 ml of water?

  6. Experiment: Part 1 Get supplies. Jobs? Using syringe, measure 50 ml of water. Add 50 ml. of water into the bottle. *Put sticky note at water level Using funnel, add spoonfuls of citric acid one at a time, then SHAKE. Don’t stop until you get a saturated solution.

  11. Citric Acid Saturation • What items contain citric acid? • No one reached saturation yet!! • Time to keep testing! • Remember: we need to figure out how many grams of citric acid is able to dissolve in 50ml of water!

  12. Compare Salt and Citric Acid • Is the volume of liquid in the citric acid bottles greater, less than, or equal to the volume of the saturated solution? • How many grams of citric acid is able to be dissolved in 50 ml of water?

  13. Experiment Part 2 Place a cup under the funnel. Filter the solution using a WET filter paper. The saturated solution will pass through the filter; the undissolved citric acid will not. Mass the saturated citric acid solution using the scale. Determine the number of grams of citric it took to saturate 50 ml of water.

  19. How could you separate the citric acid from the water? Getter Gets:- 1 Evaporating Dish- 1 Sticky Note Label the sticky note with your names & CITRIC ACID. Place the sticky note under the Evaporating Dish (Make sure we can read them) and place in the stacking trays. One person, bring the solution to the stacking trays and pour 1/2 of the citric acid solution into one dish.
