  1. Peace In A Troubled World

  2. International Turmoil Political Dissension No Civility In Society Opposition to God

  3. Atmosphere of Insecurity

  4. It is not the will of God for His people to live in fear.

  5. I. Peace in this world.

  6. There can be no peace because the world is all about SELF.

  7. I Peter 2: 1 Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, ... ( attitudes that express competition) Ephesians 2: 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as the rest.

  8. Christians are commanded to proactively pursue peace.

  9. I Peter 3: 10-11 For, “The one who desires life, to love and see good days, must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. 11 He must turn away from evil and do good; He must seek peace and pursue it.” Matthew 5: 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

  10. Pray for leaders so that we may live in peace. I Timothy 2: 1-2 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2  for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

  11. The objective of the quiet life is not just to be happy ... it facilitates evangelism. Acts 9: 31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace, being built up; and going on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to increase.

  12. Peace among men is not always possible Romans 12: 18–If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. John 18: 36–Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be.. Acts 8: 4 –Therefore, those who had been scattered went about preaching the word.

  13. II. Peace in the church.

  14. There must be peace in any kingdom ruled by the God of peace and love.

  15. Mark 9: 50–“...be at peace with one another.” Mark 9: 35 ... In the kingdom there should be no conflict b/c each serves others II Cor. 13: 11–Finally, brethren, rejoice, be made complete, be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. I Thess. 5: 13–... Live in peace with one another.

  16. Peace is a product of love and of effort. II Timothy 2: 22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

  17. Peace must be one of the goals of all congregations. Romans 14: 19 So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another. I Corinthians 14: 33 ..for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

  18. Once achieved, peace is must be actively maintained. Ephesians 4: 1-3 Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, 2with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, 3being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

  19. Peace can only exist in the absence of rivalry and in the presence of love. Compare : Philippians 2

  20. III. Peace in your heart.

  21. True peace does not depend upon circumstances, but upon a man ... Jesus the Christ. John 14: 27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

  22. One’s peace is directly proportionate to his love for and trust in God.

  23. Matthew 6: 25-33 For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? ( Birds ... Flowers )31 Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’32For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

  24. Peace is a result of knowing that the God who loves you is in control of your life. Philippians 4: 6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

  25. Though we come to know the peace that should be ours, it’s hard to surrender. Colossians 3: 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.

  26. IV. Peace with God.

  27. Peace with God is the foundation upon which all peace is built.

  28. broken relationship

  29. Colossians 1: 19-20 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. Ephesians 2: 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought nearby the blood of Christ. 14For He Himself is our peace, ...

  30. Peace with God is possible only through justification by grace through faith. Romans 5: 1-2 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.

  31. Knowing we have no condemnation we have peace of mind. Romans 8: 1 ... there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. I John 4: 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

  32. What have we observed about peace. 1. We should pray for peace on this earth. 2. God demands peace in His church. 3. Inner peace isn’t dependent on events. 4. Peace with God is the ultimate goal.

  33. Peace with God gives us inner peace, but causes conflict in our daily lives. Luke 12: 51-52 Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division;52 for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. ......

  34. Our eternal peace with God is linked to our willingness to endure conflict. Matthew 10: 32-34 Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in Heaven. 33But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven. 34 Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

  35. No matter the turmoil around you, you can have peace in Christ. John 16: 33 These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.

  36. Have you overcome the world through Christ ? Or Are you reacting to events ?

  37. You can have perfect peace. Peace that’s beyond the world’s ability to comprehend it.
