  2. INTRODUCTION TO ALLERGY • Hypersensitivity: Initially, human being contacts Ag (allergy) and becomes sensitization. Then the body has a high response to same allergy when it contacts with them in second time (through skin, mucosal or blood).

  3. THE IMMUNE SYSTEM CAN GO WRONG IN SEVERAL WAYS • Gell and Coomb’s classification of hypersensitivity (type I, II, III and IV) • “Allergy” is the commonest way that the immune system can go wrong

  4. GELL AND COOMB’SCLASSIFICATION OF THE HYPERSENSITIVIY STATES • TYPE 1 - IgE Ab mediated immediate reaction • TYPE 2 - IgG, M mediated Ab response • TYPE 3 - Immune complex • TYPE 4 - Delayed type hypersensitivity
