  6. Subject Pronouns • Serve as the SUBJECT of a sentence or clause • I, we, you, he, she, it, they • Object Pronouns • Serve as the OBJECT of sentences or prepositions • Object – words that complete the meaning of a verb or preposition • Me, us, you, him, her, it, them

  7. Examples of SUBJECT Pronouns • _______ apologize. (first person singular) • _______ forgives. (third person singular) • _______ hurt the team. (third person plural) • _______ must do your homework. (second person plural) • _______ are from Italy. (first person plural)

  8. Examples of OBJECT Pronouns • He likes _______. (first person singular) • She likes _______. (third person singular – feminine) • He ordered taffeta rompers for _______. (first person plural) • They hustled _______. (first person singular)

  9. More OBJECTS • Get that trashy trinket to _______. (third person singular) • Give a morsel of hope to ______. (third person plural) • They want to go to the aquarium with _______.(first person plural) • He wished ______ to tuck him in first. (third person singular)

  10. Compound Elements • When compound elements are joined with AND or OR, both pronouns are in the same case (subject or object). • My horse and I are on the way. (both are SUBJECTS) • He and I cracked crawdads. (Both are SUBJECTS) • This summons is from Sir Gallihadand me. (both are OBJECTS)

  11. HOW do we Do This? • My horse and I are on the way. • My horse is on the way. • I am on my way. • You CANNOT say…. • ME is on my way.

  12. Jimmy and me is fixin’ to go down to the hitchin’ post. • No….. • Jimmy and I are going to go to the hitching post.

  13. With OBJECT Pronouns • Please turn in your homework to him or me. • Please turn in your work to him. • Please turn in your work to me. • Therefore….turn in your work to him or me.

  14. Don’t be a Jerk • When talking about someone else and yourself…. • ALWAYS put yourself last. • Jimmy and I will go… • Sally and I are shopping. • My friend and I are heading toward… • Hand that to him or me.

  15. Examples • Herman shot a dirty look at ______ (third person singular) and ______. (first person singular) • My frothing steed and _________ (first person singular)are on the make. • Sally hit the ball to _________ (first person plural) and then to _________.
