  1. Our Melting Earth ‘By Chelsea Guo What’s the Deal? Nature Ruiner The Atmosphere is Heating Up. What exactly causes this? Angels on Earth Be a Lifeguard How to Learn More And Reply to this Article... Polar Bears are losing their homes because of Global Warming

  2. What’s The Deal? What’s the Deal? Nature Ruiner Angels on Earth Be a Lifeguard How to Learn More And Reply to this Article... Do you believe in Global Warming? Scientists sure do! Many, almost all scientists proved that there is Global Warming. Global Warming is when too many Greenhouse Gases are built up. Greenhouse gases are gases that keep the Earth so we can live and survive on it. Without greenhouse gases, our Earth would be either freezing, or burning. Some of these gases are: Carbon Dioxide, Water Vapor, Nitrous Oxide, and methane. But too much of these gases can damage the Earth. The gases trap heat and light in our Atmosphere. The cause of too many gases is that the temperature rises. This is called the Greenhouse Effect. Global Warming is also caused by too much Electrical Pollution. Electricity can cause pollution. A very common way to cause Electrical Pollution is burning Fossil Fuels to create electricity. Harmful chemicals are sent into the atmosphere when the fossil fuels are burned. Some of these many chemicals are the Greenhouse Gases. Petroleum is one of the most often used gas-electricity. It creates a lot of pollution. But people depend mostly on it. Petroleum is used in ways like transportation. It, for example, is a fuel for trains. In any way, it makes a lot of pollution like the Greenhouse Gases. THINK: Does Global Warming effect your daily life? POWER WORDS! Greenhouse Gases-Gases that cause the Greenhouse Effect; Carbon Dioxide, Methane Greenhouse Effect-The heating up of the atmosphere Atmosphere-A gas layer around the Earth Electrical Pollution-Pollution caused of electricity

  3. What’s the Deal? Nature Ruiner Nature Ruiner Angels on Earth Be a Lifeguard How to Learn More And Reply to this Article... Ice Caps gradually melting Global Warming hurts many parts of nature. It makes rising seas. When seas rise, it can kill many plants and animals that live on low-land areas, especially islands. Mostly plants die, but when they die, animals who depend on the plant starve. Then humans lose two sources of food. Meat, and crops. In this particular way, Global Warming breaks the food chain. An example of Global Warming harming nature is when algae die, little fish die, which cause bigger fish to lose food and on and on. Ice caps are also melting because of Global Warming. True of False? True! This breaks a lot of animals’ Habitats. Many of the animals are Polar Bears in the North Pole. Ice Caps melting also have something to do with our weather. It means more extreme weather. In the winter, it would be really cold with lots of snow. In the summer, it is extremely hot. This is because in the winter, the cold air from the North Pole comes down. It brings too much cold air. It makes the winter very cold. When summer rolls around, the cold air lifts more cold air. This causes extreme summers. POWER WORDS! Food Chain-transfer of energy of plants and animals Habitats-Place that is natural for the life and growth

Susanne Brooks is one of them. Her Work: Brooks focuses mainly on U.S. climate and energy policy. Particularly, she works to decrease emissions of air polluting gases, like the greenhouse gases. Her areas of expertise are: Air quality, Global Warming, and Environmental Markets. Another scientist is Melissa Carey. Her Work: Melissa Carey helps direct Environmental Defense Fund’s work on the climate change policy. Another job she does is revise articles and newspapers on climate change. The last scientist to tell about is Steve Cochran. His Work: Steve is the Vice President on climate and air and also in the Environmental Defense Fund. He works on reducing greenhouse gases and pollution. More scientists are: Scott Anderson Carol Andress Miriam Chaum, and Mille Chu Baird THINK: Would you like to study Global Warming? POWER WORDS! Emissions-unhealthy environmental gases Expertise-expert skill or knowledge Climate-environmental conditions of a group, time, period, or place

  5. What’s the Deal? Be a Lifeguard Nature Ruiner Angels on Earth Be a Lifeguard Reduce How to Learn More And Reply to this Article... Reuse Recycle • Can little things really make a difference? Many people believe so. Just turning off the light when you leave the room can help. Studies have proven that Global Warming needs to stop now. If the people now don’t help, it will leave a huge problem to people generations after. • You might have heard of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. To help, you can do just that. • Reduce: The less energy you use, the more it helps . Use renewable energy sources-like Wind Energy and Solar Energy. • Reuse: Using cloth bags when you go grocery shopping helps. Also, you can set up a compost bin. • Recycle: Set a side a place where you can recycle bottles, caps, paper and much more! • Here are some other things you can do: • Cover your water heater with an Insulation blanket. Just doing that can save about 1,000 lb of Carbon Dioxide. • Move your refrigerator to a cooler area. The refrigerator won’t need as much energy. POWER WORDS! Reduce- To bring down to a smaller extent. Reuse- To use again. Recycle- To pass through a cycle again. Wind Energy- Energy created by wind Solar Energy- Energy generated by the sun Insulation/insulate- To with a material that either prevents or reduces the passage, transfer, or leaking heat, electricity, or sound
