  2. HOMEROOM PARENT • PLEASE WELCOME MRS. LORENCE. SHE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO TALK ABOUT UPCOMING EVENTS. • PLEASE SEE MRS. LORENCE IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN HELPING WITH SOME CLASS/GRADE LEVEL ACTIVITIES.

  3. LANGUAGE ARTS • Read 20 minutes a night Monday-Thursday. (self-selected book) Reading over the weekend is certainly encouraged! • 25 Book Challenge-variety of Genres • Respond to self-selected books in RRJ (Reading Response Journal)-See your child’s RRJ on top of their desk. RRJ notebooks will be collected on a weekly basis. Students are required to write one RRJ response weekly. • Guided Reading, SSR at snack time 11:05

LANGUAGE ARTS • Concentration on writing for a specific purpose and audience using the guidelines of Focus, Content, Organization, Style, and Conventions. • Emphasis on oral presentations to prepare for the Elementary Performance Assessment. (EPA) • Hopefully, the research process will not look like this

  5. HANNAH OUR READING THERAPY DOG • Hannah’s owner, Debbie Glessner, a retired CR librarian, enjoys bringing Hannah to school. • Debbie is one of the organizers of a volunteer program called Nor’wester Readers. (website: http://www.norwesterreaders.org/)

  6. SOCIAL STUDIES • WE WILL BE STUDYING ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS FROM AROUND THE WORLD AND THEIR CULTURES • GROUP WORK/PROJECTS • STUDY SKILLS: NOTETAKING, READING FOR INFORMATION

  7. HOMEWORK • ESTIMATE OF 60 MINUTES OF HOMEWORK A NIGHT 10 x 6TH GRADE • 20 MINUTES OF READING EACH NIGHT IS INCLUDED IN THE 60 MINUTES • RRJ RESPONSE 1 TIME A WEEK • MISSED HOMEWORK – SEE MISSED HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT BOOK • CHILDREN WILL HAVE TIME TO COPY HOMEWORK. HOMEWORK ON THE CLASS WEBSITE IS A BACK-UP AND FOR YOU TO SEE DAILY ASSIGNMENTS.
