  1. The Frank Family Births May 12, 1889-Otto Frank (Anne’s father) January 16, 1900-Edith Frank (Anne’s mother) February 16, 1926-Margot Frank (Anne’s sister) June 12, 1929-Anne Frank

  2. 1933-1939 • Summer 1933-The Franks move to the Netherlands because of increasing tensions in Germany. Otto Frank travels to Holland with family later following.

  3. 1940-1943 • June 12, 1942-Anne receives a diary for her thirteenth birthday!!! • July 5, 1942-Margot, 16, receives a call-up notice to report for deportation to a labor camp. The family moves into the ‘Secret Annex’ the next day. • July 13, 1942-The Van Pels family moves into the Annex • November 16, 1942-Fritz Pfeffer moves in as well. • Both of these families were friends of the Franks’.

  4. Early 1940’s continued -The Franks and other families in hiding could hear Nazis patrolling the streets at night. -They were forced to live a life of near complete silence, with minimal privacy.

  5. August 4, 1944 The residents of the Secret Annex are betrayed and arrested.

  6. Deaths • September 6, 1944-Mr. Van Pels is gassed. • December 20, 1944-Fritz Pfeffer • January 26, 1945-Edith Frank • Feb., March- Anne and Margot (typhus) • Spring 1945-Mrs. Van Pels • May 1945-Peter Van Pels ********************************************************** Otto Frank survived. He was liberated from Auschwitz by the Russian Army on Jan. 27, 1945. He lived to be 91.

  7. The Diary • Anne Frank’s diary was recovered after they had been sent to concentration camps. • Her writing was extraordinarily good for how young she was. • Her diary is considered one of the best primary sources available for holocaust-related studies.
