  7. AREA Science Park’s tenants in the biomedical and life science sector

  8. AREA Science Park’s tenants in the agro-food sector

  9. AREA Science Park’s tenants in the energy and environment sector Orion Power

  10. Syncrotron Trieste.Elettra and Fermi Lightsources A multidisciplinary international laboratory , specialized in generating high quality synchrotron and Free-Electron Laser light applied in materials science. Over 1000 of scientists and industrial users from more than 50 different countries based on scientific merit of their proposal (peer-review) have access Elettra and Fermi beamlines every year. Because of its central location in Europe, Elettra is increasingly attracting users from Central and Eastern European countries. Next step is to establish a facility for advanced material analysis and device development offering Lab facilities and research competences to industry on contractual basis (Open LAB)

  11. A unique Innovation Management System

  12. Target • Small (and medium) enterprises with some technical “problem” to solve, lacking research capability and a direct channel of communication with Research Centers. • Goal • Increase access to research to facilitate and improve SMEs innovation processes • Methodology • A network of “Competence Centers” working for the most relevant economic clusters in our region. The tasks of our “Competence Centers” are to: • monitor and assess companies’ innovation needs • match technology and innovation demand with competences and solutions • Provide companies with a reliable and independent support for innovation

  13. THE COMPETENCE CENTRES BUSINESSPROCESSES SHIP AND BOAT BUILDING PLASTICS & NEW MATERIALS sottotitolo presentazione ENERGY AGROFOOD WOOD AND FURNITURE

  14. Technology cluster in biomedicine • AREA Science Park is the main shareholder of CBM, the regional Technology Cluster in Molecular Biomedicine, hosting the headquarters and main R&TD facilities. • CBM • is the cluster managing company: • is a public-private company; • acts as a bridge between public research and industry • manages a network of science centres, companies, governmental bodies, development agencies and financial partners • promotes research and development activities aimed at understanding molecular mechanisms causing diseases. • Technology Cluster’s activities focus on nano and biotechnologies applied to medicine. • Strategic sectors include genomics, pharmacogenomics, bio-nanotechnologies, molecular imaging and bioinformatics

  15. Target Researchers from Universities, Public and Private Research Bodies, wanting to increase the market application of their research results. Goals Help to develop the market potential of research: scouting, exploitation and transfer of research results to market Methodology Our SISTER method is a two-step structured process. In the first step the research results are checked and validated In the second step three exploitation alternatives are explored: transfer the findings to an established company create a partnership between research and industry for further development creation of a research spin-off company

  16. Target • Researchers coming out from Academia as well as from private companies wanting to bring to market their “Business dreams” • Goal • To take an idea and turn it into a new and innovative enterprise with a sustainable future • Methodology • While incubators usually support companies already established, the distinctive feature of Innovation Factory is to support in the pre-incubation phase ambitious, “would-be” entrepreneurs interested in creating their own business. • Our methodology provides: • Selection of entrepreneurial initiatives to be hosted • Assessment of Needs, Approach, Benefits and Competitors(NABC) • Development support services (mentoring & coaching, managerial, legal, technical, IPR….) • Proof of Concept and prototyping assistance • Financial support • Incubation services • Marketing services and help in searching potential customers • Help to turn aBusiness Dream into a Business Plan

  17. Target People working in Technology transfer offices Goals Train the futureTechnology Transfer Experts in the application of the unique methodologies developed by AREA. Methodology Innovation Campus, located in our Headquarters in Trieste, offers advanced training courses, specialized training in specific areas, summer school, and consulting for operational projects and technology transfer. Most importantly we place participants in an environment where technology transfer methodologies are not just studied but also developed and applied on a daily basis. This means a “full immersion technology transfer training”!

  18. Coordination of Research Institutions The Coordination of Research Institutions (CER) is the networking initiative of the national and international research centers, universities and scientific and technological parks in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. CER is an initiative of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region, in cooperation with the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

AREA Science Park is responsible for coordinating the activities of the centersbelonging to the Network. The Coordination promotes science and technology and encourages international collaborations, with an impact on the economic and social fabric of the region. Goals
- Enhancing research and the scientific, economic and of knowledge potential of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region for industrial and social purposes;
- Strengthening the role and visibility of national and international research centers located in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region; - Promoting scientific and technological dissemination and spread of Innovation.

  19. Foresight • Objectives: • The application of a structured methodology to identify and prioritize areas of scientific and technological research which can have major economic impact in the medium to long term future taking account of global developments in research but also global business and demographic trends and demand factors and the national and regional context and key success factors. • Using the process of Foresight to foster linkages between the research and business communities as well as to assist policy makers in selecting priorities for public sector investment. • Using the process and results of Foresight to communicate the potential benefits of scientific discovery and research driven technology based growth. • AREA Science Park, 5 years ago began collaborating with world class Business Intelligence and Foresight experts in Silicon Valley and to develop its own in-house capabilities. AREA is now ready to share these methodologies.
