  2. What is persuasion? A means of convincing people • to buy a certain product. • to believe something or act in a certain way. • to agree with a point of view.

  3. What are persuasive techniques? Persuasive techniques are ways of adding to the appeal of information presented to support a persuasive argument. Advertisers aim to persuade an audience to buy a product, support a cause, or view an organization in a certain way.

  4. Common Persuasive Techniques Used in Advertising • Slogan • Repetition • Bandwagon • Testimonial • Emotional Appeal • Expert Opinion Purpose?

  5. Slogan A catchy phrase or statement often used to sell a service or a product. “Can you hear me now? Good.”

  6. RepetitionThe name of a product is repeated sometimes in various formats. Most Recognized Version of Logo 3D Version of Logo Advertising Version of Logo

  7. Bandwagon A statement suggesting that everyone is using a specific product, so you should too.

  8. Testimonial A well-known person endorses/supports a product or service.

  9. Emotional Appeal Words and/or images that appeal to the audience’s emotions are used.

  10. Expert Opinion Experts approve this product, so you should use it. “Four out of five dentists recommend Crest for their patients.”
