  1. 2020 Decentralized (DEC) Long Island Arts Grants Funds Administered New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Re-administered by Huntington Arts Council Application Deadline: Friday, September 20th, 4PM

Creative Communities Grant (CC) • Ranging from $500-$5000 • Provides support to Nonprofit Organizations and Individual Artists for accessible arts projects that enhance the cultural climate in our neighborhoods and communities. • Creative Learning Grant (CL) • Ranging from $500 - $5000 • Provides support to Nonprofit Organizations and Individual Artists that partner with a LI public school (K-12) or Community Centers to engage students and lifelong learners through sequential, hands-on art instruction for rich artistic learning experiences. • Creative Individuals Grant (CI) • Fixed at $2500 • Provides support to individuals artists in the creation of new work with community engagement in the creative process Grant Opportunities DEADLINE FOR ALL GRANT OPPORTUNITES: Friday, September 20that 4pm (NO EXCEPTIONS)

Program Priorities • Innovative/unique/multi-disciplinary projects • Artistic quality & integrity of the project • Projects that reflect minority special interest/underserved/underrepresented communities • Project that demonstrates a need in the community that is not being met • Projects that include payment to artists for work • Projects that are collaborative and intergenerational

Applicant Eligibility and Guidelines • MUST be a Nassau / Suffolk County resident/nonprofit & completed in that county • Projects MUST take place 2020 calendar year & open to public • Must 18 at time of application • If applicant is a nonprofit, they MUST have proof of nonprofit status & an active Board of Directors • In CC, if an artist, partnerships MUST be with Arts + Cultural Org qualified as a Not-For-Profit • The CL provides funding to Nassau & Suffolk County teaching artists working with public schools ONLY, and after school programs / community-based centers/organizations. • Funds support the role the arts play in engaging K-12 public school students and lifelong learners through sequential, hands-on art instruction for in-depth opportunities to create and experience the arts

Eligible Expenses Remember: this is a project support grant program • Artist fees for performing, teaching, or providing services • Marketing/publicity costs • Direct administrative expenses related to the proposed project • Expendable project–related supplies and materials • Project-related rental of space and equipment • Project-related technical fees • Project-related travel expenses (no out-of-state travel)

Ineligible Expenses • General operating expenses • Permanent equipment or capital improvements • Cash prizes, juried shows, scholarships, fellowships, awards to students • Activities not open to public: camps or clubs, events in private homes & studios • Entertainment costs, including food/drink; receptions, parties • Fundraisers • Creation of textbooks or classroom materials • Out-of-county activity or travel • Activities that are non-arts related: balloons, clowns, magic, yoga, etc • At-risk social service programs; primarily for rehabilitative or therapeutic in nature • Acquisition of works of art, art restoration, or art preservation

Online Application System: Submittable • Only online applications via Submittable will be considered; including work samples and support materials. • Link to grant applications will be available on the HAC website http://www.huntingtonarts.org (Programs  Grants for the Arts  Applications) • When you are ready to apply, you will be prompted to create an account on Submittable, if you do not already have one. • Application drafts will be saved for 21 days. Remember to “Save as Draft” before exiting application; otherwise all work will be lost.

Awardee Requirements • Recipients are required to sign & adhere to contract with HAC • Grant period: January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020 • AwardeesMUST submit project timeline by January 30, 2020 • Must be submitted through Submittable • Awardees must offer complimentary tickets/invitations to final project or other project-related activities for auditing. • Publicitymust have proper credits and HAC logo • All changes must be approved by HAC • Awardeesmust submit a Final Report within 30 days of completion of the funded project or byJanuary 13, 2021, whichever comes first. • Must be submitted through Submittable. Hard copies are no longer being accepted.

  12. Creative Communities:This grant supports arts & cultural projects &activities of non-profit or an individual artist partnering with a non-profit organization, in their county, to service local residents &visitors of the area

  13. RULES & REGULATIONS • Organizations must match 30% of the total project expense budget. (cash match, in-kind contributions) • Funded applicants from prior year/s cannot apply for grant awards with theexact same project • Organizations may apply for up to 3 projects;however, the sum total of requests cannot exceed $5,000. • Organizations may apply for a Creative Communities project grant and also serve as a Fiscal Sponsor for an individual artist, collective or unincorporated entity.

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY PARTNER? • Supports artist-initiated activities in county of residence • Partner provides letter of commitment • Partner provides something to help out the artist • i.e.; venue/space, marketing support, community outreach, staff/admin support • Artist makes application • Artist will use Partner information on application • Artist signs contract • Artist receives payment directly • Artist completes Final Report • Can NOT be a direct NYSCA applicant

  15. CREATIVE COMMUNITIES PANEL CRITERIA Applications will be judged on: • Artistic and programmatic merit: 50% • Benefit to the public; community involvement & support: 30% • Professionalism of application: 20% • Budget and Fiscal competence (attachments, materials)

  16. Creative Learning:These grants support arts education partnerships with teaching artists to teach during the school day or after-school or in a community-based setting

  17. Rules & Regulations Applicants may ONLY submit one (1) proposal requesting support for one (1) Creative Learning project. Applicants may NOT be lead artistic facilitator or key partner in more than one proposal for Creative Learning. Budget must show at least 30% of planned project income in cash from sources other than the Creative Learning grant.

  18. Project Requirements– For In-School Projects - Only teaching artists or non-profit organizations may apply for this grant. L.I. Public Schools can’t apply. • These projects are expected to be designed, planned and taught by the participating teaching artist/s and non-arts teacher/s. • Students should not be selected voluntarily or be taken out of regular class to participate • Grant must not replace, or appear to replace, the role of certified arts teachers in schools. • MUST have at least 3 hands on learning sessions with the same group of students. • Project must have an evaluation plan in place. • A letter of commitment from the Partner to the Applicant must be included. • The Executive Director/Principal should sign letter and it should appear on the Partner’s letterhead, and it must outline • partner’s support of the project (monetarily and/or otherwise) • anticipated roles and responsibilities for each team member involved.

  19. Project Requirements—For After-School & Community-Based Projects— • Project must involve at least three (3) hands-on learning sessions with teaching artist/s, group of students. Contact sessions should be separated by enough time for reflection and refining. • Project must have an evaluation plan in place to access students • A letter of commitment from the Partner to the Applicant must be included. • The Executive Director should sign letter and it should appear on the Partner’s letterhead, and it must outline: • partner’s support of the project (monetarily and/or otherwise) • anticipated roles and responsibilities for each team member involved.

  20. What Is Not Eligible • A project whose main focus is: • at-risk/social service • recreational, rehabilitative, or therapeutic • and/or liturgical in nature is not eligible • Mental health programs or projects whose focus is to use the arts to heal or worship. • Projects taking place in Home, Private, Parochial, & Charter Schools • Stand alone performances • Permanent Equipment • College-level courses, scholarships, contests, or student performing groups. • Partnering artist/s may not be employee of the school or its district • Proposed school partners cannot be engaged in any other partnerships receiving funding through NYSCA • Local cultural organizations can not apply if they have applied to NYSCA in 2020.

  21. Creative Individual: Creative Individuals is a local artists funding program in Nassau and Suffolk county that highlights the role of artists as important members of the community Four grants of $2,500 are available for 2020 grant cycle

  22. Program Priorities Projects MUST engage a segment of the community through a public program, such as an exhibition or performance that is open to the public. Emphasis is placed on: • the quality & authenticity of the creative process • how the project enriches the cultural life and fulfills a cultural needon Long Island • the potential to nurture personal artistic growth and development

ELIGIBILTY REQUIREMENTS • Open to ALL disciplines: • Visual Arts: Painter/Sculptor/Installation Artist/Photographer/ Printmaker • Literary Arts: Poet / Novelist / Playwright • Music: Composer / Musician • Performance Arts: Choreographer • Media: Film / Video / Time–based • Projects must be new • This does not mean you cannot explore similar themes • Previous awardees may apply again, but with different project or themes

Ineligible Projects • Equipment purchases over $100 • Permanent equipment • Performance/interpretation not created by artist • Applied arts: Jewelry, landscape and architecture • Journalism: essays • Commercial arts: graphic design, communication, illustration • DIY and handicraft • Culinary arts, circus arts, martial arts and yoga Projects that are currently supported through NYSCA Projects that begin before January 1, 2020 Work that can not be complete or publicly presented by December 31, 2020 Projects that are not open to the general public Collaborations between artists and collectives Projects that are recreational and/or rehabilitative Projects that are education-based Entertainment costs, receptions

PanelCriteria Strength of application will be judged on… • Quality & artistic merit of proposed work: 60% • Merit of Applicant’s past artistic projects • The project is new, innovative, engaging or relevant to their art practice • Quality of proposed community engagement & impact: 20% • Evidence suggests the artist can actively engage the public & bring interest to the new artwork • Merit of Applicant’s past community projects • Fiscal and managerial skills: 20% • The project can be completed as proposed in relation to cost, location and timeline • The expense budget is appropriate and fair to the tasks performed and clearly relate to the project description

  26. Program Synergy • HAC is blending the DEC program with our Exhibition program • Bi-annually HAC will offer a “DEC the Walls” Exhibition in our home gallery space for those who are a creative individual awardee

Other Grant Opportunities • NYFA, News York Foundation of the Arts • NYFA Fellowship: NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowships are unrestricted cash awards of $7,000 made to individual or collaborating originating artists living and working in the state of New York, and/or Indian Nations located therein. These fellowships are not project grants but are intended to fund an artist’s voice. • A.R.T. NY Creative Opportunity Fund • Opportunity to Create: funding that supports the development or presentation of high quality professional theatre. • Opportunity to Grow: funding that supports a strategic growth initiative that will help stabilize the administration of the organization.
