This network strengthens national information systems, diagnostic assessments, and guidance for public security. It also supports the creation of observatories and promotes the use of data and tools for strategic partners.

Data and Tools International Classification of Criminal Offenses • What is the role of the DPS? • Assist UNODC and member states in implementing the Classification • Gradual implementation • According to capacity, conditions, resources, and times for each member state • Advantages: • Consistency and comparability of data in country and among countries • Common framework for classifying data from administrative sources and victimization surveys • Measure gap between reported and unreported crimes • Instrument to harmonize collection and dissemination of data from different criminal justice institutions, levels of government, and sources

Data and Tools Enhance use of CTS in the region • What is CTS? • UN study on crime trends and functioning of criminal justice systems • 6 fixed sections with 164 indicators in total • 1 special section  2015 CTS special Module on prisons • What is the role of the DPS? • Since 2010, DPS has been assisting UNODC in promoting use of CTS in the Americas • Follow-up, uploading, processing, and analysis

Data and Tools Enhance use of CTS in the region • What is the purpose? • Consolidate CTS focal points and integrate with SUT (SES project) • Assist countries with CTS application • Increase the number of countries replying to CTS every year • Improve index of replies for certain sections • Address problems together in order to respond and propose solutions • Provide input for Hemispheric Observatory
