Learn about the Types of Dental Implants

Dental bridges help fill any gap between your teeth. By replacing a missing tooth

with a bridge, you will be able to increase your bite force and protect your other

teeth at the same time. Bridges are quite effective; they last long, and are far less

invasive than implants. However, you need to bear in mind that there are many

different types of dental bridges and you should learn about them before going any

further. Here is more about it:

Traditional Dental Bridges

These are the most common and popular types of dental bridges. They have one or

more fake teeth and require dental crowns to maintain their position. Also called

abutments, these bridges are cemented on to the teeth around your missing tooth.

You can opt for these types of bridges when your natural teeth around the gap are

intact. These bridges are considered quite strong and can replace molars. The only

thing you need to keep in mind is that your dentist will remove the enamel of the

adjacent teeth to fix the bridge. Those adjacent teeth will also require crowns or

else they will develop complications.

Cantilever Bridges

You will also find another type of bridge called cantilever bridges. You can use

these to replace your missing teeth. While they are quite the same as the traditional

bridges, they do not require support on the adjacent sides of your missing tooth.

Your dentist will use an abutment on one side of your missing tooth for support. It

means that if you have only one tooth close to the gap, you can still opt for a

cantilever bridge. With these bridges, only one tooth needs to be prepared by the

dentist. Unless you work with an experienced dentist, cantilever bridges can cause

complications such as loosened crowns or fractured teeth.

Maryland Bridges

If you are looking for a rather conservative alternative to a traditional bridge, you

may consider going for a Maryland bridge. The bridge in this case will stay in

place with the help of a pintic that uses a porcelain or metal framework for support.

Your dentist will bond the framework on the back of the teeth surrounding the

missing tooth. There is no need to file your adjacent teeth when you opt for

maryland bridges they work quite effectively

Maryland bridges. They work quite effectively, but you need to bear in mind that

they are not as strong as traditional bridges are.

Implant-Supported Bridges

In case you have multiple teeth missing, you can opt for an implant-supported

bridge. What sets these bridges apart from those traditional bridges is that they are

supposed by implants. Your dentist is likely to use one implant for every missing

tooth and then use these implants to keep a bridge in place. These types of bridges

are usually quite secure and comfortable.

The crux of the matter is that you can find many different ways to replace your

missing teeth, but going for dental bridges is probably the simplest option to

consider. Just ensure you know all your options and have some info about the types

of dental implants to make a right choice.
