  2. SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY AT HORSESHOE TRAILS After school Parent Pick Up and Drive requires you to stay in your car and follow the directions of the teachers on duty. No child will be put in the front seat of the vehicle or walked between vehicles. Parent Pick Up and Walk requires patience when finding an established parking space. Parking on curbs or dirt obstructs the movement of all traffic. The speed of vehicles in parking lots should be no greater than five miles an hour. Crosswalk travel is paramount for supervision and safety. Private vehicles are not allowed in our bus loop at anytime. Our lower parking lot has access out to 52th Street. If your transportation plans change, you must send a note with your child or contact the front office before 2:30. WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE AND CHARACTER AS A MODEL FOR OUR STUDENTS.

  6. Language Arts Assessments Our new reading series is significantly different than years past. The program promotes testing after a student has internalized the material. Assessments will be given in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and spelling. **Spelling Test:Will test the phonic skill of the week • Short i Pattern: tip, trip rid, fins, spin, flip, swim • Actual Words on The Test: slip, him, lift, grin • Sentence Dictation: Jim can sit on a mat. __________________________________________________________________________________ • Spelling High Frequency Words • Old High Frequency Words

  7. Recess/Lunch 11:00-11:40 • 11:00-11:20 recess • 11:20-11:40 lunch • Hot Lunch $2.25 • Milk $0.40

  8. GoMath Lessons are done in large group and then broken out into smaller stations. Children will be using higher level thinking skills; as well as learning basic math content. • Stations Include: Differentiated instruction with the teacher Collaborative learning with a partner(s) Individualized learning on the iPad (Imagine Math) GoMathandImagine Math Log-in info: Clever Badge Handout

  9. Writing/Grammar • Parts of speech • Conventions • 6 Traits Writing • Types of Writing: Narrative, Informational, Persuasive, and Research • Handwriting **Writing happens across the curriculum

  10. Recess 1:45 – 2:00 • Healthy Snack- Packaged separately and labeled with name. • Snacks are placed in snack basket in the morning. No child will be able to return to the classroom during this time to retrieve his/her snack.

News You Can Use: • Comes home each Monday • Provides overview of what students will learn • Provides information about the upcoming events and activities • Provides phonics pattern, reading high frequency words, and spelling high frequency words • Outlines homework for the week • ****Phonics Rule: If there is only one vowel in the word, the vowel usually says its sound.
