7. Senior Review • Who? – Anyone who is planning on graduating in December 2019, Spring or Summer 2020 • When? – September -October • How? – Guided Study with a counselor • During the Senior Review in Guided Study, your child and his/her counselor will discuss graduation requirements and postsecondary plans. A copy of your child’s application for graduation will be mailed to you in November.

8. A student must have 23 credits in order to graduate HS Those credits must generally include the following: • 4 LA • 4 Math • 4 Science • 1 Health/PE • 3 Social Science (U.S. History and World History, Economics and Political Systems) • 3 Electives (Fine Art/Technology/Foreign Language) • 4 additional electives ALL course requirements must be completed in order to participate in the graduation ceremony!

At the completion of the associate program, a student may transition into a bachelor’s degree program within the University of North Georgia. • Rolling Admissions, Selection based on SAT/ACT scores and high school performance • Enrollment: 8,000 Typically requires two years of the same F.L. • Public, liberal arts college • Rolling Admissions, 2.0 or higher and SAT/ACT/Accuplacer • Enrollment: 21,000 * requires two years of the same F.L.

How many schools should my child apply to? • “Dream School” • Likely—a pretty good chance of getting in • Safety—a sure thing for admission and cost • Ultimately, deciding how many schools to apply to is a family decision. However, the recommendation is that they consider applying to one to two schools in each category.

22. Applying Early? Early decision and early action plans allow students to apply early (usually by October or November) and get an admissions decision December or January. Early Decision versus Early Action • Early decision plans are binding. A student who is accepted as an ED applicant must attend the college. Exception - ED is not binding after financial aid is offered, if the cost of admission is not affordable (usually a 2 week window to notify school). • Example Emory University • Early action plans are similar but are not binding, which means students receive an early response but do not have to commit to the college until the college’s posted response deadline. • Example: University of Georgia • Please check the policies of the individual colleges/universities you are applying to if you are applying early.

23. “OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT” • GEORGIA COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES • FREE Online through www.gafutures.org (NOT available for Final Transcript after Graduation). • OUT OF STATE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES • Out of State schools cannot accept transcripts through Ga Futures. • You can now pay for transcripts on MyPaymentsPlus! Transcripts are $5.00 per copy. Click “Make a payment-->School Fees -->Transcript” • Counseling will receive an email with your transcript order and will have it ready for you to pick up in 1-2 school days. • Student must stamp, address, and mail sealed envelope.

24. FINAL TRANSCRIPT • Final Transcripts show proof of graduation. • Final Transcripts cannot be sent through GaFutures. • Final Transcripts must be signed/sealed by Brookwood. Final Transcript must be mailed by you! • Seniors will order Final Transcripts in May. • Transcripts are $5.00 per copy. • Pay on MyPayments Plus! Just log in to your MPP account and Click “Make a payment-->School Fees -->Transcript” • Can’t access MyPaymentsPlus? Bring $5 to the college/career room in May for Final Transcripts. • Seniors can pick up their official, final transcripts from Brookwood on or after June 1st.

Once completed, they will be available for the counselor to access. Teacher recommendation forms are to be given directly to the teacher. Brag Sheets • Plan ahead – Your child must allowtwo weeks for his/her counselor to complete his/her letter of recommendation • The student’s part of the application is expected to be completed beforehand.
