  1. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES Mrs.Steere’s Classroom Irmo Middle School

  2. FOREWORD • Welcome to Mrs. Steere’s class. • I am here to teach; you are here to learn. I will do my job; you will do yours, and we will together use this year wisely and beneficially. • Positive attitude is the key of success. Let’s keep it all the time.

  3. WHY DO WE HAVE PROCEDURES? • A procedure is the way that we do things. • To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: • To open your locker, you have to select your combination as directed by the lock manufacturer. • To place a call on your phone, you need to enter the number in the right order. • So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures.

  4. ENTRANCE • Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class. • Enter the classroom quietly. • Go directly to your assigned seat. • Take out your folder, place it on your desk, be seated quietly.

  5. RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS • Immediately start the bell work that will be written on the board. • Do the bell work in your journal. • When you finish, wait quietly for the next direction. • When there is no bell work, wait quietly for instructions.

  6. WHEN YOU ARE TARDY • Enter the room quietly • Give Mrs. Steere your tardy pass. • Quietly go to your seat after you are given permission to do so. • Please do not talk to your peers while you are walking to your seat. • You will not be excused from any work you missed if the tardy is not excused. Make it up at home.

  7. DURING INSTRUCTION • Listen to the teacher with full attention. • No pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering. • Don’t write anything during instruction. You will be given time for taking notes. • Ask permission to speak by raising your hand. • Ask questions related to the subject. • After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t understand.

  8. WHILE YOU ARE WORKING • Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them. • If you didn’t understand, ask help from other students sitting around you. If they also don’t understand, ask to the teacher to explain it. • If you are asked to help, be polite and kind and offer your best.

  9. WHILE YOU ARE WORKING Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. The person sitting on the other side of the room should not be interrupted by your noise. Respect each other and be friendly. Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.

  10. KEEPING YOUR NOTEBOOK • You will start a notebook where you are going to keep the important materials: grammar tutor, vocabulary lists, sample of works etc. • The first page should be the course description with your name and signature on the bottom • Number the pages in the right top corner.

  11. KEEPING YOUR NOTEBOOK Keep your notebook clean and organized. Your notebook will be checked from time to time. Turn it in on time when you are asked. Take good care of your notebook. Do not lose it. If it gets to be in a bad shape, you are responsible for replacing it.

  12. IF THE TEACHER RAISES HIS HAND • Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. • Face the teacher and wait silently. • Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised his hand. • No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher.

  13. AFTER YOU ARE DONE • Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. • If the assignment is to be turned in, do so. • Start your reading session or do other activity from the poster “When you are done”

  16. HOMEWORK PROCEDURE • Students in Spanish Prep classes are expected to study on regular basis. You should study the vocabulary at home using the vocabulary list you have in your notebook. This is the only homework you will have in class.

  17. HOMEWORK PROCEDURE Students are expected to study on the regular basis and complete all homework assignments. Homework will be given every class to ensure comprehension. All homework assignments are posted online. Students are asked to stop in my class, to call their study buddies or email me to get their assignments for absences. All students have three school days after an absence to arrange for make up work. Work must be completed within five days after the absence. It is the student’s responsibility to secure and complete assignments within this time frame. If a student is absent during the quiz or a test that was announced in advance, the student will make it up the first class he/she is present.

  18. WHEN YOU ARE ABSENT • Get the assignments from your classmates and the worksheets from Mrs. Steere. Do the work at home. • If you missed a test or a quiz, you are going to make it up the day you return to school, please be ready for it.

  19. CLASSROOM RULES Please raise your hand when you need my attention. When I need your attention I will raise my hand. Stop what you are doing, raise your hand, and make eye contact with me to show that you are ready to listen. Keep your voices low at all times, as well respect all other students, teachers, principals, and visitors on our campus. Use your best manners at all times. Keep your hands and feet to yourselves.

  20. CLASSROOM RULES Running on the school property is allowed only in PE classes or during the recess, not in the classroom. When someone enters the classroom, only the Diplomat greets the visitor, the rest of the class continues working quietly and follows the procedures. Clean your surrounding desk area at the end of the class. Writing or marking on the desk is damaging school property. Please do not write on the desks. If it happens by accident, make sure you clean it up. Throwing things around is category IV offence. Please do not throw or toss pens, pencils, paper balls or other things around

  21. HALLWAY PASSES Students should contact the teacher always prior leaving the classroom. Students are to use restrooms and locker area only during the class change times.
