Zaheer Khan shares his views on Virat Kohli's move to open in the final T20I against England Indian Cricket Team have successfully registered a win in the fifth and the final T20I against England and clinch the series 3-2 as well. However, it was their opening pair that didn’t provide the desired result throughout the series and they used as many as four different pairs in the recently-concluded T20I series. While in the first four games they didn't get the desired result, they found great support in the captain Virat Kohli who opened alongside Rohit Sharma and the duo laid the winning foundation for the team as well. The duo stitched 94 runs from 8.5 overs before Rohit got out to Ben Stokes in the 9th over after already hammering 64 of 34 balls. Later, the swashbuckling batsman Suryakumar Yadav continued his onslaught with Kohli anchoring the innings from the other end as well. After Yadav's dismissal for 32 (17 balls), Indian Team Management pushed Hardik Pandya up in the batting order and he smashed a blistering 39 off 17 balls as India put up a massive total of 224/2 from their allotted 20 overs with Kohli remaining unbeaten on 80 as well. And former India speedster Zaheer Khan feels that it is the addition of Suryakumar Yadav in the playing eleven that allowed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to open the innings and played a fearless brand of cricket in the opening as well. "The question one should ask is how it became possible that Virat Kohli could come and open the innings? It became possible because India got a batsman like Suryakumar Yadav. Suryakumar went there and showed what he can do at no. 3 position," Zaheer Khan said in an interview on Cricbuzz.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli too expressed his desire to open more often and he might be seen in the opening slot for the 2021 edition of IPL also. “Yes, I’m going to open in the IPL as well. Have batted in different positions in the past but we do have a solid middle order now –it’s about the two best players getting maximum no of balls in T20 cricket. I’d like to partner Rohit at the top and the other guys feel confident when one of us are in. I’d like that to continue,” Kohli said at the post match presentation.
