Process 1 • Aim at validation to link programme outcomes to curriculum and assessment • Programme team provide evidence of use of external reference points, employer demand and involvement • Audit trail can include: minutes of team meetings, employer meetings; previous engagement with relevant sector for other programmes; feedback from employers.

  6. Process 2 • Programme team prepare to discuss this with panel members, to clarify points – contributions from whole team • Can form part of evidence base for IQER and FDAP • Prepare documents as for external members coming cold to provision

  7. Employers • Range of roles • Providers of work-based learning (WBL) • Member of employer panel at college • Consultant for programme(s) • Provide live briefs/guest lectures • Includes SSC/SSB • Chamber of Commerce link

  8. Evidence of employer engagement includes • Notes of meetings, formal and informal • Evidence of employer input into curriculum • Evidence of feedback from employers • Programmes of events, guest lectures with evidence of impact • Consideration of employers’ existing training for APL

  9. Key points • Validation process must assist and not hinder responsiveness to employers • Staff development on preparation of appropriate documents • Involvement of the team • Understanding by senior management of the need to combine thoroughness and rigour with speed of response.
