  5. Yes/No Questions How do we ask yes/no questions in English? You like ice cream.

  6. Yes/No Questions Agricola puellamamat. Agricola puellamamat? Agricolanepuellamamat? Nōnneagricolapuellamamat?

  7. Yes/No Questions Agricolanepuellamamat? -NE: the interrogative enclitic particle interrogative: asks questions enclitic: “leans on” a word particle: untranslatable part of a word -no expectation about the answer Nōnneagricolapuellamamat? -NONNE: non + -ne = expects a YES answer

  8. Yes/No Questions If the answer can be yes or no, add –ne to the end of the first word in the sentence Agricolanepuellamamat? Does the farmer love the girl? Treat –ne like an upside down question mark in Spanish (¿): it just signals a question If you expect the answer to be yes, begin the sentence with nōnne Nōnneagricolapuellamamat? The farmer loves the girl, doesn’t he?
