  2. A ll About Me • My husband’s name is Anthony and my daughter’s name is Brooke. • I teach Career Preparedness, Microsoft courses, and Management Principles with an Intro to Accouting. • This is my 11th year teaching and second year at THS!!

Some facts… • I graduated from Athens High School. • I received my Bachelor of Business Administration from Athens State University. • I received my Master of Business Administration from Alabama A & M University. • I received my Doctorate of Business Administration from Argosy University. • I am a big Alabama Football fan! ROLL TIDE!! • I love to shop and spend time with family!!

  4. BTA COURSE DESCRIPTION: • Students in Microsoft IT Academy benefit from world-class Microsoft curriculum and software tools to tackle real-world challenges in the classroom environment. In the first part, students will learn to use the newest version of Microsoft Word interface, commands, and features to create, enhance, customize, share and create complex documents, and publish them. In the second part, students will learn to use the newest version of Microsoft PowerPoint interface, commands, and features to create, enhance, customize, and deliver presentations. English language arts are reinforced. Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course include cooperative education, internship, service learning, and job shadowing. This course can help prepare students for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) in Word and/or PowerPoint.

  5. What to expect… • This course is designed to help prepare students for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) in Word and PowerPoint. Students will be responsible for completing challenging real-world projects and assignments typical to the business world.

  6. What do you need? • USB Flash Drive (not required, but highly recommended) • 3-Ring Binder with pockets • Composition or notebook • Loose leaf paper (go ahead and put in your binder) • Headphones/Earbuds • Pen/Pencil-bring one EVERY DAY!

  7. Class Expectations • Show respect to Dr. Shears & show respect to your classmates. Show respect=get respect! • Please do not download any files or change any screen settings on your computer!! • No food or drink in the computer lab. • Throw ALL trash away in the trash cans—do not shove things in the desk. • Keep backpacks underneath your feet.

  9. More Expectations… • When you come to class every day, be seated and logged in to the computer when the bell rings. • Follow class rules for electronic/cell phone usage. • Always follow THS and Alabaster City Schools rules pertaining to behavior, dress code, make-up work, attendance, etc.

  10. Discipline • Class I violations will be handled with a warning, followed by a phone call to parents, loss of classroom privileges, seat assignment or discipline assignments. • Any student committing a Class II, III or IV offense will be sent immediately to the office and parents will be contacted. • In other words, know the expectations for my class, follow them, and we’ll all get along just fine 

Edmodo & Email • My email address is • duana.shears@alabastercityschools.org • We will be using Edmodo, so you will be creating an account in here. • Link: Edmodo.com • We will go over this in more detail this week! • You will be using Edmodo EVERY DAY. When you log in at the beginning of class, the first thing you should do is log in to Edmodo. Keep your username and password somewhere safe where you can refer to it daily, if needed!

Instructional Philosophy • We the administration, faculty and staff of Thompson High School, realize the tremendous responsibility we have to help each student reach his/her fullest potential as a productive member of society. In helping each young person meet the demands of today’s technological world, we must provide each one with the best possible opportunities for becoming well-rounded individuals. Our curriculum provides for growth in academic areas, cultural knowledge, personal skills, and social skills • I’m here for you!! Come see me if you get confused, lost, are struggling in my class & need some extra help, or if you need anything else. You guys are my favorite part of my job 
