  3. Strategy – One Primary Goal • Protect the interests of the soybean producer by supporting the growth of the domestic livestock industry.

  4. Market Environment “Same old, Same old” Continuing Attacks on Current Production Methods Multiple local and state regulatory challenges HSUS, PETA, Grace Factory Farm Project, Farm Sanctuary, Compassion over Killing, etc New Challenges Going Green is the new “Elite” Mentality Pew Commission on Industrial Farm Animal Production Reports Consumers hold farmers and food companies most responsible for food safety. Consumers hold “people like themselves,” federal regulatory agencies and farmers most responsible for ensuring environmental protection

  5. Importance of Animal Agriculture • Animal consumption increased from 29.71 million metric tons in 2005 to 30.15 million metric tons in 2006 • Animals consume 98% of domestic soybean meal • Meal consumption drives soy demand and value

  6. Ability to Impact • Final Year of Stand Alone AAI • Graduation of Programs to DMC • Integration into the Center for Food Integrity

  7. Failure to Support • Tipping Point of Change • Social License to Operate is a result of trust • Increased regulations are a result of mistrust • Trust is not scientific, it is emotional

AAI Rollover Target Area: Animal Utilization Strategy: Promote livestock and poultry production within the US • Existing projects and programs roll into Domestic Marketing Committee • More QSSB involvement through granted funds to keep work on the local level • Leveraging with many partners through the Center for Food Integrity
