  2. BONE INJURY

  3. BONE BREAKS • The result of high force impact or stress, or trivial injury https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j0GESR2YbA

  4. BONE BREAK TREATMENT • Keep the injured bone as still as possible; do not bear any weight on it • Apply ice • Keep the area of injury raised

  5. BONE BREAK TREATMENT • Seek medical care • Treatment of the break depends on the area and severity of the injury • The bone may be realigned and supported with a splint, case or brace • Surgery may be needed

  6. Healing • Step 1: When a bone fractures, blood vessels are broken too. Blood pours from the vessels and forms a clot around the broken ends of the bone • Step 2: New bone cells move into the blood clot. As more bone cells are made, the blood clot is gradually replaced by bone • Step 3: Any old pieces of broken bone which jut out are absorbed into the blood stream, so the repair is smoothed down

  7. BONE DISLOCATION • When sudden pressure pulls a bone out of its socket at the joint

  8. bone dislocation • Can cause severe pain and deformity of the joint area • Shoulders, elbows, knees, hips and ankles, fingers and toes • Treated with a splint after joint is placed again

  9. bone dislocation • http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7ck3JcxyEmM

  10. BONE FRACTURES • Fractures of the bone are classified in two categories: the simple fracture and the compound fracture, in which the skin is pierced and the flesh and bone are exposed to infection.

  11. SImple fracture • Commonly occur from a high impact or trauma to the bone • Defined by a crack in the bone • Small cracks in the bone are called stress fractures- caused by overuse

  12. Bone fracture • The symptoms include: • Out of place limb or joint • Swelling, bruising or bleeding • Numbness and tingling • Limited mobility or inability to move a limb
