  2. Richmond County School SystemMission/Vision/Beliefs The Mission of the Richmond County School System is to educate students to become lifelong learners and productive citizens. RCSS VISION STATEMENT Create a World Class school system where 90 percent of students graduate, college, career ready and globally competitive. Beliefs: 1. Every person has the right to a quality education. 2. Education is the shared responsibility of the individual, home, school, and community. 3. Every person can learn. 4. Respect and acceptance are essential for learning and personal development. 5. A safe, healthy and orderly environment is essential to learning. 6. Communication is the key to understanding among people. 7. Excellence cannot be compromised.

Beliefs The learning community at Lake Forest Hills believes: • Teachers, administrators, students, parents and the community share the responsibility of carrying out our mission. • Students learn best in a safe, healthy, stimulating and caring environment. • Each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs.

  5. Learning should be a positive partnership involving teachers, administrators, parents, students and the community. • Student learning should be developed using a variety of teaching methods to accommodate individual differences. • Discipline is essential to all students’ success. • Understanding differences can increase students’ appreciation of diversity among people. • Students should be challenged to achieve their potential in an ever-changing world.

  19. Lake Forest HillsStrengths • CCRPI rating increased from 69.9 to 70.6. We were contacted by the central office to share our strategies so that they could use that information to strengthen the county. • We have been most pleased with the gap closure between our white and sped students which originally labeled us a Focus School. We saw the gap change in the CCRPI area of Challenge Points from .5 to 3.7 points being awarded for closure in the gap. • We also reduced the amount of red and yellow performance flags. Our black sub group met the state and sub group target in all areas except ELA.

Lake Forest HillsStrengths • Since 2011-2012 we have seen the following growth: Reading: 92.9 to 96.4 Math: 79.25 to 87.5 Science: 77.19 to 87.01 Social Studies: 74.56 to 84.01 ELA: 93.81 decreased to 93.75(.06 decrease) • Our 5th Grade Writing Test increased from 62% to 66% in the 2013-2014 school year.

  21. Lake Forest HillsChallenges • We continue to address our need to improve in Mathematics. We would like to be in the 90% consistently. • We will continue to improve our Students with Disabilities achievement by mentoring students and tracking their progress monthly. • We will increase in our 5th grade writing assessment. We moved from 62.3% to 66% this past year. Our goal will be 70% for the 2014-2015 school year.

  22. Lake Forest HillsChallenges • 14% of our students missed more than 10 schools days last year. We would like to reduce this number to 9% in the 2014-2015 school year. • 57% of students that had been retained missed more than 10 days this past year. Our goal will be 30% for the 2014-2015 school year.
