Developmental Perspective on Trauma/Trauma on a continuum • Why integrative restoration is good for both clients and professionals. • Traumatic events happen to us throughout the lifespan and our ability to cope is ever-changing. • At the same time protective factors and defense mechanisms we as individuals use to cope are ever-changing through the life span as well. • Therefore in our chosen professions you can switch chairs in the blink of an eye

  5. So Why I-Rest and What is I-Rest? • Integrative Restoration is a guided meditation developed by Dr. Richard Miller in conjunction with the US Military to directly address the effects of intense trauma • A Yoga Nidra, meaning “Sleep of the Yogis”, is a 3000 year old tradition. What doctor Miller did is use language, i.e. I-Rest at ease which was familiar to military personal in north America in general . • In addition a strict protocol so that research could be completed on the use of I-Rest. The 8 minute, 15 minute and 32 minute I-Rest all use the same script.

  6. The Key Elements of I-Rest • Following are stages of the protocol that are followed each time an individual does a practice. • The first three stages are the heartfelt desire, 2. intention for the individual practice, and 3. the identification of the individuals inner resource. • The next stage is body scanning. Turning the individuals attention away from thinking and analyzing toward the other powerful senses of touch, taste, smell, sight, scanning the body from head to toe. • Depended upon the length of the I-rest being practiced there are guided attempts to assist individual to balance thoughts i.e. one of the most prevalent issues related to traumatic exposure; negative schema
