  1. Click to go to web site Imagine Mars http://marslander.jpl.nasa.gov/images/nav2_mainimage.f Goals: Mars Past, Present and Future

  2. General Martian Features • Thin carbon dioxide atmosphere • Rocky, red surface due to iron oxide • Polar ice caps • Mountains, craters, valleys, and volcanoes • Dried up river valleys indicating water was once running across surface

  3. Mars Atmosphere • Very windy, carbon dioxide, and thin • Will not support life as is Insert Picture Here

  4. Surface of Mars • Mountains • Valleys • Craters • Volcanoes Not much to look at to attract people to live there

  5. Ice Caps • Polar ice caps of frozen carbon dioxide Insert Pictures Here

  6. Where's the water? • Mars had a highly eroded surface • Looks as though water ran freely over the surface • Where is the water? Insert Picture Here

  7. The Future On Mars • Man Living on Mars • What must be done to live on Mars? (My Ideas) Insert Picture Here • http://mmp.planetary.org/tour/learn.htm

  8. Problems to Solve • Martian Atmosphere is not breathable • The is no Earth-like protection from harmful radiation from the sun • Few resources for building materials • Mars has no water

  9. My Ideas • Create colony in bubble shaped dome with necessary atmosphere enclosed in bubble • Bubble must also filter harmful radiation • Using sand from surface glass can be made as building material • Must bring and recycle water
