  11. AJourneyofOpportunityandEmpathy To the amazingaudience ofFrugalpreneur, my nameis RichardBlank and Iam theCEO of CostaRica'scallcenter.MyjourneybeganbackinNortheastPhiladelphiawhenIgraduated theproudAbingtonhighschool.MyfavoriteclasswasSpanish.SoIdoubleddown.Wentto the University ofArizonawas aSpanish communication major. And at 27years old,I wasgivena one in amillion opportunity to moveto Costa Rica andwork at my friend'scenter for a coupleofmonths.Thatturnedintoabunchofyears, andIlearnedthebusinessfromtheinsideout, asaproletariatsittinginthecubicles, thegoodandthebad, andthehappyandthe sad.AndwhatIdidlearnisthatpeopleneedtheirdignity, andifyoucouldextendempathy, youmight be able to grow a company.

I needed tofollow my own and live myown life.

  13. The Importance of Humility in Business Thebiggest success I had when I was bootstrapping my business was being humble.I know thatifIclosedanaccount,IgotmoreexcitementoutofthatthananysortofearningsthatI made.I wasbuilding onmomentum. And Iknow thatif Icould repeat somethingand have goodhabits andstructure, that Icould expand acompany.Andso in thebeginning, it really wasn'taboutflashingandmovingtoofast.IreallywantedtomakesurethatIunderstoodthe levelsthatI wascominginto andbeingable tomasterthem. BecauseifI couldn'tmaster certainentrylevelpartsofbuildingabusinessandbeingmatureandresponsiblewithmoney, howcouldIberesponsibleforhundredsof agents?

  14. Empathyand Mentorshipin Business Thenumberonetip thatIuseonce again,it'sempathy. Imean, knowingsomebody's name, breakingbread with them, playing pinball and Pac-Man with them, showing an active interest insomebody.Thatdoesn'tcostmeanymoney.Idon'tneedtoshoweryouwithpizzaparties andunlimited drinks at a bar ona Friday night. No, I'mlooking to build your self-reliance and self-confidence.And ifI could be a mentor, if I could be a teacher, if Icould be a fine example forsomebody where they want tocome to work on time, they want to hit their metrics,And they'recoachableindividualsthatarewillingtobeadjustedaccordinglyinordertobecome more effective. And soas long assomebody is willingto do thatsort of selfanalysis, then we candefinitelygrow.
