  1. USA Drug Prices Compared to the World Prescription drugs cost more in the US than in almost anywhere else in the world. As a result, Americans are illegally importing drugs from other countries.

  2. In Canada and other developed countries, the same prescription drugs — manufactured in the same factories, by the same companies — are available for a fraction of the price compared to in the U.S.  In fact, Americans spent $1,112 per person on prescription drugs in 2014, according to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. Canadians, on the other hand, spent $772 over the same year.  Online Canadian Pharmacy prices can range between 50 and 80 percent less than buying similar prescription drugs through your local U.S. pharmacies. CIPA certified online pharmacies follow the same prescription process as the U.S. mail-order companies, requiring a valid and signed prescription from the patient’s doctor or other licensed health care provider. Take Crestor, for example. AstraZeneca manufactures this drug that is used to prevent cardiovascular disease in those at high risk and treat abnormal lipids and sells it to consumers in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, New Zealand, India, and Turkey.

  3. One 40mg pill costs $259.58 in the U.S. compared to $69.30 in Canada. The price drops even more to $2.21 in the U.K., Australia and New Zealand. In India and Turkey, the same pill costs less than 37 cents.  Cymbalta is also sold at a significantly higher price in the U.S. than elsewhere in the world. Shionogi and Eli Lilly co-develop and co-market duloxetine HCl in Japan. Duloxetine, marketed in many countries as Cymbalta the antipsychotic drug in Japan and sells it in the U.S. for $34.51 per pill. The same pill costs $4.65 in Canada — 87 percent less than in the U.S.  Many of the most expensive drugs are taken for an extended period of time, and costs quickly add up. The following are the 9 most expensive drugs, period, in the U.S., taking into account both drugs you can get at a pharmacy and healthcare practitioner-administered drugs. Relatively few people take most of these drugs — but their outsized costs can translate into higher premiums and more restrictive formularies for everyone.
