  3. Goal • To inspire and create students interest in Computer Science and Technology by taking a journey inside a computer and identifying the components.

  4. Proverb • “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him to use the Computer and he won't bother you for weeks”

  5. The beginning of the computer age…

  6. Computer Components • Hardware- Computer components

  7. power supplies –ENERGY center • Power supply provides functional energy to the entire system

  8. Power Supply Unit (PSU) Power supply unit or PSU, the component that supplies power to a computer.

  9. Hard Disk (HDD) – the “STORAGE”

  10. The hard drive is what stores all your data. It houses the hard disk, where all your files and folders are physically located. A typical hard drive is only slightly larger than your hand, yet can hold over 100 GB of data. The data is stored on a stack of disks that are mounted inside a solid encasement

  11. Memory RAM (Random Access Memory)“the working environment”

  12. Every time you open a program, it gets loaded from the hard drive into the RAM. This is because reading data from the RAM is much faster than reading data from the hard drive. Running programs from the RAM of the computer allows them to function without any lag time.

  14. “The Brain” • A processor is the logic circuitry that responds to and processes the basic instructions that drive a computer.
