Opening the Case • Make sure that you have a grounding strap to avoid static discharge that can ruin your computer. • You always need to have a grounding strap connected to a wall plug. • When you take off the case you lay the computer on it’s side. • You’ll find the Power Supply, Power Connector Floppy and hard drive connectors, Enclosure around drive bays, CD-ROM/ Hard Drive Bay, Hard/Floppy bay, Memory Sockets, Microprocessor, Motherboard, and Expansion card slots.

  4. Power Supply and Cables • Cables running between the power supply are colored black, red, and yellow. There is one cable for each hard drive. • There is a multicolored power supply cable with 12 wires going between the power supply and the motherboard. • You should have 230-300 watts for a standard computer. Recommended 250. For a high powered system with a micro-processor that uses a lot of power it’s best to provide 300 watts.
