  2. What is 4-H • http://youtu.be/G7LnSefVOrQ • 4-H is community driven. It helps students learn about things that they will need to know as they become an adult. • 4-H believes in helping students discover by doing every thing hands-on. • 4-H used to be farm based because of the rural areas that it originated from, now you can make discoveries about anything you would like. • 4-H teaches students to have responsibility.

  3. 4-H Leadership • These are the different leadership branches Cooperative Extension System 4-H National Headquarters, NIFA Within USDA National 4-H Council National Association of Extension 4-H Agents • 4-H is lead by a unique private-public partnership of universities, federal and local government agencies, foundations and professional associations. These partners work together to provide rich educational content and curriculum, resources in cutting-edge technology, insight into the latest national issues and innovative thought-leadership.

  4. Quick Facts • With an expansive network reaching every corner of the country, 4-H is the nation’s largest youth development organization. More than 6 million 4-H youth work together building revolutionary opportunities and implementing community-wide change at an early age. • During the late 1800's, researchers at public universities saw that adults in the farming community did not accept the new agricultural discoveries being developed on university campuses. However, they found that young people were open to new thinking and would "experiment" with new ideas and share their experiences and successes with adults.  • A. B. Graham started one such youth program in Clark County, Ohio, in 1902, which is considered the birth of the 4-H program in the United States.

  5. Research • According to Wave 6 of the 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development, 4-H youth have strong inclinations toward healthy behaviors, academic excellence and civic achievement. • 4-H Healthy Living initiatives are proven to engage youth in positive healthy living behaviors • 4-H Science program models provide added value to both schools and communities and increase the number of students pursuing science, engineering, technology and applied math fields in their academic studies and careers.

  6. Sponsors • Work at 4-H is enhanced by leading corporations, foundations, and organizations that have made a commitment to support America’s youth. These sponsors help provide cutting-edge programs for young people to learn real-world skills that will prepare them for the challenges of today and tomorrow.

  7. Opportunities that 4-H provides • 4-H News Broadcasting http://youtu.be/j84Wpon_bwU • Skateboarding http://youtu.be/N2j-oEsX44o • Science Discoveries http://youtu.be/1u1QVYKMZbc • Conquer Obesity and Buy Your Own Home http://youtu.be/WC90-fGzGuo

  8. Contact Information • Every school around this area participates in 4-H. There is a county chapter, and a state chapter. Both of these are located conveniently in our area. • Your County Office Anderson Courthouse, 100 N. Main Street/ Room 213 Clinton, TN 37716 (865) 457-6246 • http://anderson.tennessee.edu/ • Your Main State Office Tennessee Office 2621 Morgan Circle 205B Morgan Hall Knoxville, TN 37996 (865) 974-2128 • http://www.utextension.utk.edu/4H/contactus.htm

  9. 4-H in Our Schools • One thing that we are familiar with in this area is 4-H speech competition. This is given at most of the elementary schools. The students compete in front of an audience. The students are aloud to give the speech on whatever they would like, but the speech is worked on in class. Therefore, the speech must be school appropriate.

  10. MaKayla Seiber • She gave a speech about Jesus Christ. She did not win the competition, but she was very proud about what she said. She told the audience what an adult can’t even say in front of two people. In my book, she is a winner.

  11. Experience • My 4-H experience • Does anybody have an experience with 4-H that they would like to share?
