  2. Background • Gum was first made from sap off of the sapodilla tree. Also known as chicle. • Mayans chewed it. • The ancient Greeks chewed Mastiche.

  4. Natural Gum • The natural chewing gum came from a gummy substance names Mastiche that came from the mastic (to chew) tree. • The flavor of this tree is slightly smoky. • Less sticky; more flexible.

  5. Bubble Gum • Bubble gum is chewing gum specially designed for blowing bubbles. • The first bubble gum formulation was made in 1906, by Frank Fleer.
