  1. Who gets to stay? We are learning about migration into the UK

  2. Roles: • Characters – They will represent the character in their card. • Immigration officers – They will allocate a citizenship card to the cases they think are most deserving of citizenship. • High Court Judge – He makes the final decision as to who stays and who goes.

  3. Characters: You have just arrived in the UK you have to plead your case to the immigration officers they will decide who they think is most deserving of citizenship.

  4. Immigration Officers: A person will be given priority if: • One of their Parents is a UK citizen. • They belong to a country in the EU (see map) or Commonwealth country. • They are of good character. • Can speak English. • Have the intention of living in the UK and paying tax here.

  5. Role: • Fayed owns a large department store in London. He is from Egypt and arrived in England 30 years ago.

  6. Role: • Roman from Russia is a successful businessman. He has homes in Moscow, London, Monaco and New York.

  7. Role: • Gareth is working as a supply teacher in London where there is a severe shortage of teachers. He is from South Africa.

  8. Role: • Ali from Iraq is a Christian. In his own country people are burning down churches and murdering Christians. He is a refugee.

  9. Role: • Margaret from Canada has a degree in business and is married to an English RAF officer.

  10. Role: • Penny’s dad mum his English, her Dad is Jamaican she has lived most of her life in the USA. She has just married Phillip who is English.

  11. Role: • Kamal, from Bangladesh, moved to the UK with his family when he was 2 years old.

  12. Role: • Miguel, from Portugal, has lived in England for 13 years he has always worked as a restaurant manager

  13. Role: • Byng is from the Phillipeans she has married an English man and wants to come and live in England.

  14. Role: • Peter is a builder who has just moved from Poland, he has a job in England working for his Uncle.

  15. Role: • Maria from Romania has come to England for a better job and life.

  16. Role: • Steve has moved to the UK from Fiji to play Rugby for Gloucester.

  17. CITIZENSHIP This card entitles the bearer to remain in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island.

  19. HOMEWORK: If you were in charge would you increase or decrease the number of citizenship cards given? Why?
