Updates to ICCP Extension for MSP Application: Version 03 Enhancements for Operational Efficiency

This document outlines key updates to the ICCP extension for the MSP application, version 03. It introduces new co-authors, Weiqiang Cheng from China Mobile and Daniel Cohn from Orckit-Corrigent. Significant enhancements include the addition of a "PE Node Failure" clause, which details the protocol followed during a working PE node failure. Furthermore, the principles of operation are clarified, emphasizing the interaction between protection and working nodes, and minor semantic changes supporting SONET APS are highlighted. Additional context on network scenarios involving 3G and 2G access nodes is also provided.

  2. Updates (1) • Updates to version 03 • New co-authors: Weiqiang Cheng (China Mobile) Daniel Cohn (Orckit-Corrigent) • Re-edited text for purpose of clear description

  3. Updates (2) • Add clause 5 “PE Node Failure” • When working PE node fails, protection PE node sends SF-W over K1 and follows normal MSP procedure for this condition. • -- Error in this clause in -03 will be fixed in next version

  4. Updates (3) • Explain the principles of operation • Protection PE node calculates state machine output and sends it to working PE node. • Support SONET APS (only semantic changes in introduction) • Minor changes to TLVs

  5. Updates (4) Scenario — 3G access nodes that typically connect to the network using Ethernet interfaces coexist with 2G access nodes that typically connect to the network using SDH interfaces. MSP BSC PEm PE1 SDH PEn PE2 RNC ETH LAG
