  3. Regional Special Education Transportation • What is RSET: • RSET stands for Regional Special Education Transportation. ACES developed this initiative to save districts money while safely transporting students to out-of-district placement sites. • Area Cooperative Education Services (ACES) manages all aspects of the RSET initiative including being responsive to requests and concerns from districts, parents, schools and transportation companies.

  4. Regional Special Education Transportation • RSET Benefits: • The benefits of the program for the districts are: • To reduce transportation costs • To address and alleviate daily parent calls & concerns regarding their child’s transportation needs • To reduce district work load by managing all facets of the initiative – negotiating the best price from the bus company, ensuring needs are met in a timely fashion, addressing all concerns

  5. Regional Special Education Transportation • Participating Districts & Out-of-District Schools: • We currently serve 6 districts totaling 87 students: • Cheshire • East Haven • Hamden • New Haven • North Haven • West Haven • In addition, we also have: • 5 North Haven students being transported internally (Reg. Ed.) • 8 Branford students being transported to Eli Whitney in Hamden • 1 DCF Middletown student being transported to Whitney High East

  6. Regional Special Education Transportation • And we are poised for growth: • ACES has a solid reputation in providing quality, safe services and programs to special needs students • ACES has experienced, responsive knowledgeable staff that will negotiate the best rates, find the best bus companies and provide excellent customer services • The RSET Program has the capacity to engage additional districts & out-of-districts special education schools

  7. Testimonials: “The RSET program has allowed us to provide more quality transportation services for some of our students with disabilities while also being more cost effective. Despite their best attempt, our previous provider was not always coordinated or responsive which created much angst between parents, placements and the district. ACES’ oversight of transportation has been comprehensive in terms of establishing monitors, rotes, responding to parents and adjusting to students’ needs. We have also realized savings by the model being a collaborative across multiple school districts.” Dana Corriveau, Director of Student Services North Haven Public Schools “Participating in the ACES Regional Special Education Pilot Program has been an overall positive experience for New Haven Public Schools Department of Student Services/Out-of-District team. The collaboration between the ACES RSET Team and NHPS has been exemplary. They are very responsive to the needs of the students, families, and district. The RSET team maintains open lines of communication with every stake holder in order to address the needs of all parties promptly. I look forward to continuing this partnership with the many members of the RSET collaborative as the program moves into its second year of operation.” Amy Miller, Out-of-District Coordinator, Department of Student Services New Haven Public Schools
