Questions to Consider While Viewing the Video • Three teachers at Hoover Elementary offer conflicting views of Proposition 187 and of immigration – Laura Angelica Simon (the filmmaker), Dianne Lee, and Arcelia Hernandez. What are these views? How does their understanding of their students and the larger Latino community shape these views? • A quarter of Latinos and half of Asian Americans supported Proposition 187 – why do you think this was the case? • In your opinion, if the courts had not ruled Proposition 187 unconstitutional, would teachers be a reliable of information on their students’ legal status? Why or why not? • If they weren’t, why did the proposition require that teachers be put in that role?
