Liaison Committee on GIS • 12 Ministries and Agencies involved • Secretariat: GSI and National and Regional Planning Bureau under the supervision of the Cabinet Office • Goal: Development of NSDI and Promotion of GIS in Japan • Long-term plan developed in 1996 • Two-phase approach • First: 1996-98FY; Second: 1999-2001FY • ‘NSDI Standards and Development Plan’ approved

NSDI Standards • Technical standard GSI developed based on ISO/TC211 drafts was adopted • Spatial data exchange standard + Guideline for product specifications • Data items for spatial framework data • No quality information included • Actual data development is expected under the administration of each Ministry or Agency

  4. Agreement of Implementation • Digitization of geographic information and internet service • Digital Map 2500(Spatial Data Framework) • Digital Map 25000(Spatial Data Framework) • Clearinghouse development • National Standard
