    1. Related Ongoing Activities MANETs, Cognitive Radio, Protocol Development, Game Theory

    2. Related Ongoing Work Dr. Jeffrey H. Reed

    3. Overview of Projects Cognitive Radio for WRAN (IEEE 802.22) Cognitive Radio (ARO) SCA core framework projects Cognitive Radio Testbed Interference Characterization and Management in WLAN’s

    4. Cognitive Radio for WRAN Sponsored by ETRI (2006-2008) Objectives Analyze cognitive radio adaptations via game theory and traditional approaches Single parameter adaptations Multiple parameter adaptations Analyze radio-resource management in WRANs using game theory Multi-cell networks Co-existing Networks Ad hoc networks

    5. Cognitive Radio for WRAN Evaluation of different WRAN protocol candidates via game theory Development of protocol and etiquette design rules for WRANs based on results of game-theoretic analysis Develop cognitive radio engine supporting Observation process Learning Process Decision Process Adaptations Negotiation Process

    6. Cognitive Radio Sponsored by ARO Survey Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques suitable for Cognitive Radio Engines Evaluate AI Techniques Matlab Simulations Test Convergence Performance Test Memory Requirements Recommend techniques for further development and implementation

    7. SCA core framework projects SCA is at the heart of the technical specifications of the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Provides a framework for the establishment, maintenance, and tear-down of waveforms SCA provides the “glue” that holds a radio system together SCA core framework projects Open source effort (NSF) Software architecture with DSPs (TI) Power management (CIA) Rapid prototyping (SAIC) Integration of testing into the framework (Tektronix) API standardization for smart antennas

    8. Open-Source SCA Implementation::Embedded (OSSIE) SCA offers powerful architecture for essentials in SDR design Open source approach adopted Supported by NSF NeTS program OSSIE can be downloaded at: http://ossie.mprg.org (over 10,000 site visits, 1800 downloads to date) OSSIE useful in basic R&D Planned improvements More complete framework Advanced library of components and waveforms Research-related contributions Power management SCA 3.0 Eventual goal is to achieve JTEL certification

    9. Cognitive Radio Testbed Development of a cognitive radio test-bed using Tektronix off-the-shelf components and MPRG’s open source SCA and test equipment software (“wrappers”). Test-bed’s Main Components Arbitrary Waveform Generator AWG430 – used to create a multi-mode transmitter. Logic Analyzer – used for signal characterization (identifying bit patterns, protocols, etc.) Real Time Spectrum Analyzer (RSA3408A) – used to perform signal demodulation. PC with MPRG’s OSSIE platform – used to implement the cognitive engine.
