  1. Presented by: Amandeep & Yasmin Presented for: Mrs. Bernad HobbitChapter Presentation

  2. Chapter : 6out of the frying-pan into the fire

  3. PLOT SUMMARY They encountered the Lord of the Eagles. During the whole battle, the Eagles took all of the dwarves away. The Lord knew Gandalf, so he helped them get away from the wolves. They got attacked by wolves. Gandalf lit an acorn on fire and then threw it into the pack. Bilbo found his way back Gandalf and the rest of his friends. He came back with the ring

  4. Character revelation Bilbo Baggins In this chapter Beginning of book • Is willing to help others in need • Wants to go on this adventure now • Knows people need him and his skills • Is able to show who he really is • He was shy • Didn’t like going on adventures • Thought he’d be good for nothing • Low self-esteem • Always in the background

  5. Simile (Comparing two unlike things using like or as) “ My legs ache, and my stomach is wagging like an empty sack”. (Tolkien 99) “ (…) thorin’s beard wagging beside him, and so quiet that he could hear the dwarves’ breathing like a loud noise”. (Tolkien 98) Literary Devices

  6. Contrast between what the character thinks the to be true and what we (the reader) know to be true. “ I will give them all a surprise,” he thought, as he crawled into the bushes of dell. Gandalf was arguing with the dwarves. He was saying that they could not possibly go on with their journey leaving Mr. Baggins in the hands of goblins. And here’s the burglar! said Bilbo stepping down in the middle of them, and slipping off the ring. ( Tolkien 93). Dramatic irony

  7. (A symbol, usually an image, which recurs often enough in literature to be recognizable as an element of one’s literary experience as a whole) “ The Lord of Eagles bids you to bring your prisoners to the Great Shelf,” he cried and was off again. ( Tolkien 109). Archetype

  8. What do you think when you hear the title of the chapter? What images or ideas come into your mind? Who are Goblins? Who save the dwarves lives from goblins? Questions

  9. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING
