  3. Our Purpose The first question that should be asked is – Why participate in international standardization? And the answer is clear – economic growth. Increasing participation of the Israeli industry in international standardization, in order to facilitate economic growth.

International standardization: facilitating economic growth • A 2010 Macroeconomic study conducted in Israel stated: • International standardization for export products where Israel is a relative leader should be promoted. • Israeli export can be increased in 800 million USD annually with the help of international standardization work, which only costs a few million NIS.

  11. International standardization: facilitating economic growth A 2015 microeconomic study in the water sector conducted in SII and guided by ISO Research - to be presented today.

Conclusion • In spite of its relative success, SII’s purpose is: • To expand industry participation in international standardization in various fields, including water technologies; • To have small-sized and medium-sized companies participate in international standardization as well as corporations and start-ups.

  13. Conclusion • To increase the awareness of the local industry about the benefits of standards and get the industry to finance most of its own participation in International Standardization -without the support of the government- within the next 5 years.

  14. Tool Box - how do we make this happen? • Can we influence international standards? • Yes. The countries who are members of the international organizations are entitled to appoint industry representatives and participate in the international standard development process.

  15. Tool Box • Will the industry receive any assistance in financing participation in international standardization? • Yes! This year the Ministry of Economy and SII are offering a joint financing plan to help representatives of the Israeli industry who join international activity.

  16. Tool Box • Does the offer to participate in international committee’s activity apply to big companies only? • Absolutely not. The offer applies to companies of all sizes.
