  2. What do these terms mean? • Indecipherability: not understandable; incomprehensible. • Archaic: words or phrases that are not used as much as they used to be • Archaic Language: a language that is no longer used or not used as much

  3. Why are Archaic Languages Usually Indecipherable? • Some of these languages are so old that they have become difficult or unable to translate • Few to no native or fluent speakers • Through language changes (Old--Middle--Modern) • Some are still studied, but they are not spoken on a regular, everyday basis (Latin)

  4. Examples of Archaic Languages: • Old and Middle Dutch • Ottoman Empire Turkish (very close to Persian and Arabic) • Lithuanian • Celtic • Eastern Germanic Languages
