  2. Slope of a Line • The slope of a line is defined as the rate of change of a function or graph. It can also be thought of as the steepness of a line. • Before we learn how to calculate and graph slope, we need to understand the different types of slopes and how they behave.

  3. Positive Slope • A line that is increasing as you move to the RIGHT, has a positive slope. • It can be any value as long as it is greater than 0. • The larger the number, the steeper the line.

  4. Negative Slope • A line that is decreasing as you move to the RIGHT, has a negative slope. • It can be any value as long as it is less than 0. • The larger (more negative) the number, the steeper the line.

  5. No Slope or Horizontal Slope • A line that has no slope is a horizontal line. • Its slope is equal to 0. • Can you think of other examples of things with no slope?

  6. Undefined or Vertical Slope • A vertical line has what is called an undefined slope. • Can you think of other examples of things with an undefined slope?

  7. What Type of Slope Is This? • Is this a positive or negative slope? How can you tell? • What makes this different than the other positive slope we saw?
