  3. As simple as this

  4. How the Program Works • The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office will act as a “silent partner” while publicly supporting the project. • Alachua County Crime Stoppers will reward a “bounty” for viable tips through funding provided by The Sheriff’s Office, along with donations from within the community. • The “Snitch Stigma” is removed since the Sheriff’s Office doesn’t appear to be paying out the rewards. • Program will act as an apprehension tool, assist in crime prevention, and provide good public relations.

  5. Anticipated Benefits of the Gun Bounty Program • Targets the criminal, and firearms used in criminal activities, or criminals in the possession of a gun at the time of their arrest. • When successful, the criminal, as well as their guns will be removed from our streets. • Greed will cause friends, other offenders and even close family members to join with “good citizens”, in turning in criminals for cash.

  6. Additional Anticipated Benefits • Empowers citizens to make their neighborhoods safer by reporting criminals with guns, for a reward. • Great investigative tool for violent crimes through the placement of door hangers, posters, public service announcements etc. • Will become a very useful source of incidental intelligence, that will be obtained through follow-up investigations.
