What Is A Title I School? • The purpose of parental involvement under Title I, Part A is to promote active involvement among local educational agencies (LEAs), administrators, school staff, parents, community leaders, and other stakeholders working to improve student achievement and promote academic success.

Title I Requirements • At Fairview, we are required to: • Involve parents in the development and annual revision of the Parent and Family Engagement Plan and School-Parent Compact. • Involve parents in the development and annual revision of the School-wide Plan • Notify parents of their Right to Know their teacher’s qualifications. • Build parent capacity through engaging workshops and resources that assist parents in increasing student achievement.

  6. Fairview elementary is A school-wide program not a targeted-assistance program • Fairview is designated as a School wide program. In a school wide program, all students benefit from Title I resources.

  7. What is Our school’s designation and what does it mean? • The Georgia Department of Education applied for a waiver seeking relief from the federal No Child Left Behind Act. As a result, the United States Department of Education agreed to use a new system, the College & Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), to report the progress of Georgia's public schools. In January 2013 the Georgia Department of Education released the final list of indicators on which schools will receive a CCRPI score. Our 2019 CPRI Score is currently not available to the public. However, preliminary data has suggested that we have made significant increases in score and we do know that we have experienced double digit gains in all grade levels.

  8. Fairview elementary schoolwide goals • Goal #1: Fairview Elementary will increase the percentage of students in grades 1-2 meeting projected growth on MAP assessment in Reading. Students in grades 3-5 will increase scores of proficient and above as measured by the 2020 GA ELA Milestones. In 3rd grad from 37% to 47%, in 4th grade from 36% to 46%, in 5th grade from 54% to 64%. • Goal #2: Fairview Elementary will ensure Standards of Science and Social Studies are taught with rigor of instruction and high performance activities incorporating art integration to increase student performance as measured by the 5th grade GA Milestones in Science from 33.65% to 38.65% and in Social Studies from 31% TO 36%. • Goal #3: Fairview Elementary will decrease the number of incidents involving discipline by 5%.

What Test do the Students of Fairview Take? • All students grades K-5 complete Measures of Academic Progress Testing (MAP) • All students complete a Fall and Spring Fountas and Pinnell Reading Assessment and IKAN and GLOSS math assessments. Students with academic concerns receive more incremental opportunities to test. • Common Formative School-wide Assessments • Friday Formative Assessments • Georgia Milestone Assessments Grades 3rd-5th, including a Writing Test

Support for EL Learners • When a student enrolls in Henry County Schools and indicates a language other than English on the Home Language Survey or registration form, eligibility screening for language services must begin. • Georgia is a member of the WIDA Consortium. All members of the WIDA Consortium utilize the same screeners to assess eligibility for language assistance services. • Henry County uses the WIDA-ACCESS Placement Test (W-APT).

WIDA Developmental Standards • Standard 1 – Social and Instructional LanguageEnglish language learners communicate for social and instructional purposes within the school setting. • Standard 2 – Language of Language ArtsEnglish language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of language arts. • Standard 3 – Language of MathematicsEnglish language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of mathematics. • Standard 4 – Language of ScienceEnglish language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of science. • Standard 5 – Language of Social StudiesEnglish language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of social studies.

Supplemental Services for ESOL Students • Current EL students who are receiving ESOL services at our school may also qualify for Supplemental Services through our Title I Program. • Students who did not score above a 4.3 on their most recent WIDA Screener will receive additional support through Title I.

  18. Support for EL Parents • When a parents indicates a language other than English is spoken at home, the school will make every reasonable effort to communicate (translations and interpreters) in the language. • Our school’s Title I Program is for ALL parents including parents of our EL students. This includes invitations to attend our Parent Workshops and meetings as well as access to the Parent Resource Center.

  19. What is required by law for parent and family engagement • Notification of Parents Right to Know of teacher’s qualification • Opportunities for Parent and Family Input and involvement. • Offerings to build parent and staff capacity in the area of Parent & Family Engagement.

  20. What is required by law for parent and family engagement • Henry County: All schools that receive Title funds are required to hire a full-time Title I Parent Involvement Professional. Although this position is a classified as a paraprofessional, the Title I PIP does not work with students or assist individual teachers with classroom duties. The PIP serves as a liaison between school and parents, relaying the needs of one to the other ensuring regulations are met. All Henry County schools that receive Title I funds are required to have a designated location, the Family Resource Center, where eligible parents have access to resources that can assist them in supporting their child academically..

  21. What is a School-parent Compact? • Each school that receives Title I funds must jointly develop and revise with parents a School-Parent Compact as part of the school’s Parent and Family Engagement Program. The school-parent compact is an agreement that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the state’s high standards.

  22. What is Parent’s right to know? • All schools are required to provide notification to all parents regarding their right to request teacher and paraprofessional qualification. This parent right-to-know notification must be shared within 30 days of the start of theschool or upon a student’s enrollment. • Notification includes: If the teacher has met state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction. Teachers at Fairview provide notifications of their credentials in multiple ways. The information is posted outside of the classroom for review as well as on the teacher’s website.

  23. How is Title I Parent and Family engagement money spent? • 1% of the annual allotment for a school has to be spent on Parent and Family Engagement • For the 2017-2018 school year $316 were available for the Parent Resource Center • The money was allocated to Translators and Child Care • This determination was made based on the parent survey conducted in the Spring of the prior year to support the academic goals of the school.

  29. Behavioral Support • Our school is a PBIS school. Our social streaming curriculum is called Second Step. • Each Monday students across the building participate in a weekly social streaming lesson. • More lessons can be provided in each class as needed. • Data is maintained concerning student behavior, social and emotional interactions and student needs. • Student support groups are designed around areas that demonstrate greatest need. • Peer Mediators are available through support of the school counselor to address minor student on student concerns.
