  2. 0 1 INTRO Content writers for SEO should review and update their writing practices to keep up with the changing times. Some SEO writing practices can be out of date and may cause penalties. This article aims to give SEO writers a technical guide for content creation in 2018. Quick Recall! There are four distinct steps in the writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing. This writing process serves as a guide for clear and easy-to-understand content. Good quality content can prevent content-related issues that can cause penalties.

Optimised content in 2018 should appeal to both search engines and users. High-quality content can convert visitors to leads or sales. I will further discuss how to write high-quality content on a different article. For now, I will focus on a basic technical guide for content creation intended for SEO.

  5. According to Moz, there are five steps in the writing process intended for SEO: listing keywords, answering queries, creating the visual layout, adding keywords, and crafting the hook. After listing the target keywords of the page, check if all of the keywords have the same intent. List what the searchers are trying to accomplish when they search for the target keywords. Answering the searchers’ queries will reveal the intent. The intent would set the tone of the content. As part of the prewriting phase, one way to prepare for drafting is by listing the target keywords. The target keywords would set the topic of the content.

  7. STEP 3: Creating Visual Layout STEP 4: Adding Keywords This step is part of the drafting phase. Here, you create an image of what the content should contain and look like. You will use the information from step 1 and step 2 to create the visual layout. The visual layout would serve as the outline for your content. Write your draft based on this outline. After writing your first draft, you can then add the keywords and related terms and concepts on the page. This step would ensure the content has a natural flow of ideas instead of being all over the place or keyword stuffed. User experience is important. STEP 5: Crafting the Hook Crafting the “hook” is the last step before you revise. The hook is something that will make other people and publications amplify and link to your content. This hook is the added value users search for.
