Problem with this system? • No plan for future retrieval (further research or retirement) • No plan for mitigating hazards (flood, fire, etc...) • Storage: PI’s own basement, Lab • Sample List: Personal spreadsheets, Field notebooks, ... What is needed? • A place to archive metadata • A common template to do it • An easy way to do it (for non-computer savvy people) • Best practices communication

Derived Data • Before publication: PI’s computer • After publication: NOAA Paleoclimate and PANGAEA Problem with this system? • No standard template to store data and data not easily retrievable • A lot of data not publically available • Some communities do not have a home to store their data in NOAA Paleoclimate What is needed ? • A place to store properly those geochemical data before and after publication • A common template • An easy way to do it (for non computer savvy people) • Getting credit for it (doi)
