2. About ms.crawford • BA in Geography/Environmental Studies from UCLA • Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Master of Arts in Education from Pepperdine University • Currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration degree from USC • Fourth year at Parras!

3. Topics in Math • Statistics and Probability (SP)will involve writing good statistical questions, then creating and analyzing data displays using measures of center, spread, variability and overall shape. • Number System (NS)will involve dividing multi-digit numbers, decimal operations, multiplying and dividing fractions, GCF and LCM, integers and absolute value, and graphing on number lines and coordinate planes.   • Geometry (G)will study the area of triangles, quadrilaterals, and polygons, nets and how they relate to surface area, and the volume of right rectangular prisms with fractional length sides. • Ratios and Proportional Relationships (RP)will cover ratios, equivalent ratio tables, unit rate, converting measurements, and percent of a number. • Expressions and Equations (EE)will emphasize reading, writing, and evaluating numerical expressions using order of operations and the properties, along with understanding, writing, and solving equations and inequalities with dependent and independent variables. All standards will focus on a deep understanding of concepts and their real world applications.

5. Supplies • 3 subject spiral notebook (already set up in class) • Students need to have the following supplies with them: • Lined paper • Supply pouch • Pencils, Pens • Correcting pen (red, pink, orange, green, purple, etc.) • Highlighters • Scissors • Glue • Erasers • Whiteboard markers

6. homework • Students will have assignments that are assigned regularly. • Homework will be completed in spiral notebook or on separate worksheets. • Homework is an extension of any unfinished class work. Anything that we have done in class that was not finished during the period is considered homework, unless I have said otherwise at the end of class. All class work and homework will be posted on Google Classroom on a daily basis. This is a great resource if your child is absent or if you want to check that your child is accurately using their agenda.

7. Late work • If students do not complete work when it was originally due, they will stay in during tutorial/lunch to get their assignments done.

8. absences • Missed assignments should be completed in a timely manner to keep up with the subject matter being studied. Students are allowed one day for each day of school that was missed to complete an assignment. For example, if a student misses two days of school, they have two days to turn in the missed assignment. If a student is aware that they will be absent ahead of time, I will make every effort to get work together for them ahead of time.

10. How students practice topics before assessment • Quick Checks • Quick checks are given for every learning target (Formative Assessment) • Graded on scale of 0-4 (put into gradebook, but is a temporary grade) • Error Analysis • When students get Quick Check back, they assess their errors (what type of error, how to fix it, state how they will better understand this learning target) • Action Plan • Given out each week (given out Monday and due following Monday), 30 minute extra practice each week • Holds students accountable for practicing topics they still need help with • Students will write how they practiced learning targets during the week (TenMarks, videos, tutor, Khan Academy, tutorial, worksheets in class, etc.) and will need to have work attached in order to receive credit.

11. How students practice topics before assessment cont. • Students keep Learning Target sheet to store their scores (can see where they need to maintain their score and where they need to improve) • Action plan is kept with them as well so they can practice working on their learning targets

12. Levels of Understanding LEVEL 4 – I got this! NAILED IT!! ·        Shows mastery of learning target ·        Answer is correct, no recall errors in non-routine/routine ·        All work to support answer is shown and complete ·        Explanations/justifications show thorough understanding of learning target ·        Accurate problem solving strategies are used ·        Appropriate math vocabulary is used LEVEL 3 - I get it! Oops… I totally knew that one… ·        Shows mastery of learning target ·        Answer is incorrect due to a minor procedural error ONLY ·        All parts of the problem are attempted/completed LEVEL 2 –I’m almost there! ·        Answer was incorrect but showed partial understanding of learning target ·        Explanations/justifications are incomplete ·        All significant parts of the problem were attempted LEVEL 1 - I’m still learning! ·        Answer is incorrect or work is incomplete ·        Only basic/limited knowledge of learning target LEVEL O – Not yet.. ·        No work shown and/or work did not match the situation ·        No knowledge of learning target was demonstrated

13. grading • 90 % Assessments and 10% Assignments • Students are graded based on their most current level of understanding of each learning target.
